82 trans am proportioning valve

I have an 82 trans am that I need a new proportioning valve for and I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know of a website that I can go to and get a replacement? Thanks!

You try rockauto?
You just want a factory one? Do you have the factory discs or drums?
Wilwoods adjustable prop valve might be worth looking into, but i'm not wise enough on brakes to know if that's an appropriate part for you.

I did try rockauto with no luck. Factory or aftermarket is fine with me so long as the threading is the same and I don't have to bend the lines to get them to fit. I might try a junkyard but I imagine they will have the same trouble getting it off as I did.

With the above requirement, you may be stuck with the JY.

It's easyer to get them off of a car you dont care about cut the line then use a 6 point socket. I have a drum rear one I can pull if you want it for 20 plus shipping. If you need a disk rear one try the parts wanted section.

If you talk to a parts store you will find out thats a dealer item only, no one sells them.

match up the numbers on the side and the tag on the end when looking for used.

Re: 82 trans am proportioning valve

I ran into same problem with a friends car. I got a newer valve setup (I forget which year) disc front rear drum. I took the steel lines off the car and bought new ones(little longer) with the fittings that fit (SAE)82. Bought one metric line that fit the valve. I bent the new lines to match cut the valve end of the line off and took the end from the metric line and put it on the line. I took the lines to brake shop and they flared the ends to match the valve. He is still has the car never had a problem.

Re: 82 trans am proportioning valve

A steel brake is just a piece of pipe, yes you can cut it and reflare it. I have purchased the different flare tools so I don't have to go to a brake shop to have them do it for me. At first I had a hard time doing it, but now it's easy.
