92 Disk/Drum to 89 1LE Proportioning Valve Question
I did this swap about a year ago and I've searched a few times and it seems I've come up with contradictory info.
My 92 Z was a front disk rear drum car (non G92) but now it's 1LE front with a 9 bolt PBR rear (all pulled from a scrapped 89 TTA)
What Proportioning Valve do I need?
Thanks for any info you can give.
Jim

Re: 92 Disk/Drum to 89 1LE Proportioning Valve Question
My car was originally a J41 with valve 10136839
The donor car was a late 89 with valve 10136840
GM part#s 10136840 and 10136841 have been superseded (combined) by GM to part# 10136839
But beginning in late 1989 through the end of production in 1992 this 10164112 was used on ALL J65 and 1LE equipped cars.
So do I need 10164112 or GM Part number 10136839? (the new # for 10136840) or are they both the same.
Gm parts direct has them both and they are both the same price.
Thanks
Jim

Re: 92 Disk/Drum to 89 1LE Proportioning Valve Question
Here's the whole quote from Mr. Burke:
14089496 1989 1st design: M1.0 tube nut threads (For 1982 - early 1989 applications) [This is the one that I used on my 85 to upgrade both front and rear to 1LE. As far as I know, the only difference between the 496 valve and 840 is the threads.]
10136840 1989 2nd design: M1.5 tube nut threads (Late 1989)
10136840 1990-'92: M1.5 tube nut threads.
Why not simply use the valve fom the donor car if the threads are the same?

You need the 10164112 valve for your '92.

Re: 92 Disk/Drum to 89 1LE Proportioning Valve Question
I am going to have the exact setup soon: 1LE fronts, nine bolt 3.27 rear with PBR's. I went and got a whole new MC for the swap: Part# 18014287.

Where is a good place to get this part 10164112? I tried to order via GMParts Direct and I got an email saying it is discontinued.
I have a 91 with front disc/rear drum and I had a 95 rear with disc installed. It works, but not very well with the stock proportioning valve.
