What kind of lube do you run for your LS1/C5 caliper sliders?
I searched around a few forums and cant seem to find anything but the stuff in mine looks like Moly grease. I wondered if anyone actually knows what it is. One of my calipers is hangin up a little so i am going over everything cuz it all looks good so I am kinda stuck... no pun intended.
To clarify I am refering about the lube that is inside the caliper bracket tubes/channels beneath the dust boots to allow the pins to slide.

I have not worked on a C5 or an LS1 but most other cars that I have used a synthetic caliper lube (which looks like moly, dark grey or black ) it seems to make the rubber in the sliders to get sticky and gummy. I have just recently started using a different type of lube that I think is a silicone paste. It looks like dielectric grease.Too soon to tell if I have better luck with that.

Hi Mike...I use the greasy thick stuff like Spohn sells but I get it locally. I also clean the slider bores out by running a drill bit through them by hand, just to clear them out and remove the rust and rough spots. Lube them up and slide them around a bit and you're good to go.

Just to clear that up, it's made by Synco Chemical and is sold as "Super Lube" synthetic grease. I Googled it and found a local distributer who has it for a lot cheaper. I use it everywhere.

Super Lube? The clear fancy named dielectric silicone grease? The stuff that came in my caliper slides was black like moly lube. I use the super lube or dielectric grease on my conventional caliper bushings ( like stock cast iron ) perhaps I am wrong using the moly type lube on the ls1 calipers?

Most of what I find from the factory is also black so I doubt you're wrong in using the moly stuff but I just use the synthetic stuff I posted on, it does the job and IMO resists water and moisture better. I often tear apart used LS1 and C5 carriers only to find the slides are rusted and binding.

Oddly enough thats what has me scratching my head. The slides in these calipers are like new no rust whasoever front or back. In fact the calipers were like new when i put them on which is even more boggling to me why I have them hang up now and then. I dunno but if you say the super lube works okay then i am going to try it. Nothing to lose.
I still wonder what exactly that factory guck is? hmmm
