LS1 rear brake mod
Ok I have searched and searched and cant find a solution to the 98-02 ebrake cable problem. What I propose to do is lengthen the stock cable coming from the ebrake handle. Also I will be widdening the T where the two cables meet the one. I took some measurements and found if I extend the cable going to the handle 6 inches and widden the T by 7 1/4 inches it would make up the difference. I am going to try and make it tomorrow while I am at work. We will see what happens.

Ok I ran into one problem. When I install it, it hits the torque arm. So I will have do redesign it a little. Instead of being strait across I am going to make the outer pecies bend at a 45 degree angle and make them go down two inches. This should solve my problem. Other wise my mod to the cable makes it long enough. (I bought a new cable and cut the threaded end off the old one and welded it together.) I will fix it at work tomorrow. I will update as soon as install it.

It works. I made the bracket 6 and 1/2 inches on the handle side. Lowerd the outer part of the bracket 2 and 1/2 inches. For the rear cables. You still have to keep the 7 and a 1/4 distance between them. But I pulled the ebrake and it works. I will try and get pics up later.

Did you get a chance to take pictures? Also, If your invention really work whats the price for a modified bracket? I just completed putting my Strange 12 Bolt installed, but need to get the E-brakes working.

LS1 rear brakes
I installed my LS1 rear calipers in the rear position by reversing the backing plates and e/brake inner hardware, mainly because I already had earls lines for a 1LE set up, and the position of the calipers and lines.....as for e/brake cables and brackets, what worked for me is shorten the e/brake bracket to locate it properly to the backing plate for the 4th gen to 3rd gen offset, use two 1988 or earlier (left e/brake cables), because the left is longer than the right, and is the right length for LS1 rears in a third gen,
using the inner 4thgen cable w/spring (cut down the tension spring, @4 coils), because the distance of the bracket is now closer by @1.5 inches, using the third gen (body side of the cable)@10 inches, I used a cable splice clamp to join the two, @ 1/2 inch long and very small, clamped and mig welded the ends together (caliper cable side w/spring 4thgen, housing 3rdgen J65 L/brake cable 88 earlier, @10inches (body side 3rd gen cable) the collar is welded between the body mount, and the hump, to allow travel in either direction. They work perfect an look as if they came that way, I will try some pics tonight.

hey jeffluke,
if you are still subscribed to this thread. Do you have pictures of your rear brakes. I would realy like to see them. I think I want to do the same thing. that is, swap the backing plates so the calipers face toward the back.

Brakes
I cant seem to get pics to load on this topic, it is a bolt on, I had the earls lines for the PBR 89-92's allready and looking at the LS1's where they mount, I would of had to buy new lines, what you do is swap backing plates left to right, which places the calipers in the rear position, the e-brake arm and adjuster is switched around the same, the lines match up fine, I had to grind down the right boss on the earls line a little as the 4th gen caliper has a lip by where the brake line mounts, to keep the line aligned to the caliper, no big deal, as for the e-brake brackets I mounted the brakes and calipers first, then drilled and slotted the e-cable hole @ 1 inch closer, and cut the difference off to get the cable to line up w/the e-arm, the 4th gen rear is @2in wider at the LCA's then a 3rd gen rear, so when you put LS1 brakes on a third gen rear, the whole backing plate moves 2 inches closer to LCA's, and the angle is off for the e-brake bracket, by redrilling the e-bracket cable hole, it places the cable at the right angle for the cable, I used a combo of 3 gen (LEFT) 82-88 disk, outer e-cables cable, and 4th gen inner cable, cut the spring down 4-5 coils, because of the 2inches it is closer, and spliced the 3rd gen ends, to the 4th gen cables by the floor hump using a very small crimped cable splice, they work excellent, I used the (left) 82-88 disk, e-cable because they are longer, you could use modded 4th gen cables, they are close to the same length and a lot of people have had success.

Its funny that nobody has tried to do that, I only did it because I did not want to buy new lines, beware the rubber dust boots for the e-brakes are not cheap at the dealer, I do not even have them on mine, as it is a good weather car.

I am not too concerned with the boots. My car has not seen rain in a year. But I am told that you can only get the boots if you buy the whole bracket.
