Best brake pads

I'm looking for the best auto-x/ high performance brake pads for the front of my 82. What are some good ones? I also want them to be good for road racing. The front brakes are stock so what fits?

I just went from the PFC Z-rated ones to the Bendix Titanium front pad. The PFC's were not very good overall and when cold they sux. The Titanium's on the other hand stop good from the first stop. Search for Chickenman 35's post as he ran autocross and did hillclimbs with them on the stock 10.5" front brakes.

On that note..... is there a decent performing "street pad" that also creates minimal dust staining on the wheels? One of the BIGgest pain-in-the-asses for the stock, painted 3rd gen wheels is keeping them clean. ;(

A street/autox pad is VERY different from a racing pad... Running the dinky 10.4" single piston rotors up front, with brake ducts, the Performance Friction '01 compound worked very well, and didn't fade. I've just fabbed some aluminum spindle hats to force the ducted air into the center of the rotor, so that should help quite a bit until the big brakes get put on there. If you run this pad for street/autox, it doesn't work as well until you get some heat into it, which may be the 2nd or 3rd corner in the autox course, which would make threshold braking harder to judge. Stick to a performance street pad for autox, since you don't get anywhere close to the heat of 20 minutes of open track time. Put in some fresh ATE Super Blue, give it a good bleed, and you'll be all set.

That being said, I did a few track days on PFC Z-rated pads when I was starting out, and it wasn't too bad on STREET tires (started to fade after about 15 minutes). The second you put on a DOT racing tire or slick and push the car, you can brake much harder, and any street pad compound will be useless by the 4th lap. Don't worry about it until you get addicted to open track events, and start going regularly. The racing pads/tires get expensive quickly.
