C5/C6 Z51 Brakes Installed: Thanks Ed!!
Well, I'm sure you've all seen a Corvette brake system installed before, but I just wanted to throw up a few pics of my new system and give a great big thank you to Ed Miller! He got my kit together and shipped to me in perfect time for me to make it down to NY and paint my car. The kit is great quality and worth every penny, this car stops so much better than my '84 did with iron calipers up front and PBRs out back!!
I got the 13.5" C6 Z-51 rotors zinc washed with C5 ZO6 calipers.
(side by side with the old 10.5" rotor)
(through the 18" ROH RT wheel)
And sure, why not, one of the whole car finished too!
If you're on the fence at all about upgrading your brakes, don't wait, do it ASAP!
-Paul
P.S. Ed - I'll get my old spindles and rotors sent back to you soon, thanks again!!

Yep, they sure do! 3" is a HUGE difference in terms of brakes...now I just need to save up some money and get 13" units for the back...although the 11.75" PBR's are working fine for now

So do you need a different bracket to run those bigger rotors? I have the C5 Z06 calipers on my car now. And they are snug with the abutment right up against the rotors. So it would need to be moved up and out to make way right? Or am I being retarted? This is true right?thx

I actually kind of wondered that myself before I bought my kit from Ed. I would assume you're correct, the bigger rotor will need the caliper moved outboard farther, but Ed will know for sure. I know the only way these Z51 rotors come is cross-drilled from GM, for whatever that's worth LOL...

My C5 Z06s are cross drilled, zinc washed and vented. So I am not looking onto replacement yet, I was just wondering if when mine finally do wear out, would I be able to use those Z51 rotors or not.

If you do decide to swap, I don't think you'll see much of a difference. You're only adding .75" overall and keeping the same caliper and pad area but they sure do fill up a wheel and look nice. I have a set of these in the shop as well with some Wilwoods I'm toying with, and I'm debating what to install on my '70 when I get around to it. Decisions, decisions.

Let me clear this up.. the C5 spindle adapter bracket is the same, all you need is Z51 rotors and Z51 abutment brackets (IE different carrier), no other changes needed. Clear now?

I am looking to swap stock iroc front brake set up with the LS1 conversion.
What do I all need besides the calipers and rotors?
I have 17"x8 torque thrust 2's
I'm confuse about the caliper adapter brackets and spindels?how much is the full conversion kit?
I noticed you sent the c-5 kit to a guy
I hope you can get back to me

You need modified spindles, hubs, adapter brackets, pads, and I recommend braided brake lines to complete your swap. You can't fit C5s due to your TT2s so LS1s will probably be the best option for you but we can always move to a Wilwood setup for more brake. LMK if you have any questions after you get my PM.

WOW!!! They look awesome. I have been looking into a brake upgrade, but I am doing wheels first (when I work out what I want), am I right in saying that TT IIs don't have as much brake clearance as most other wheels of the same size? How much did it cost for the full Z51 setup? Are the hubs machined down stock rotors? What's the availability of pads like for these calipers?

Re: C5/C6 Z51 Brakes Installed: Thanks Ed!!
These will not fit TT2s, the caliper will hit the spokes. I have fit up a LS1 rotor and C5 caliper and it just barely fits the TT2s, pics here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/brak...on-c5-tt2.html
Honestly, without moving the caliper inwards by using another rotor this is about as big as you can go without further mods to the caliper and such. Maybe another wheel of another maker will have the clearance. You can PM me for details on the kit, Paul opted for a few options so your cost may be different. Those hubs are machined rotors but I am working on a design for steel hubs, we'll see how long that takes to get done as well as cost incurred.
Almost any supplier will offer pads for this setup, they are stock C5 pads so you have a wealth of options on pad types: stock, ceramic, HPS, and others.

Oh, cool, thanks Ed! You have backing plates for 13" rotors that will work with my 9 bolt rear end? Once I get some money in the bank again I may go for that upgrade!

Thanks very much!!!
Sorry to hear the wheels are not available anymore, I had heard they were re-vamping the American imported stuff style/color-wise. I was in contact (by email) with the American distributor for ROH wheels within the last month or so and he said that they still had some of the wheels like mine in stock. I was inquiring because I rubbed a curb with one of mine and was thinking about purchasing a replacement/spare.
Check with the folks at www.groupawheels.com They are the major importers of ROH wheels in America.
I got the brake kit from Ed Miller (ebmiller88 here on the boards). The install was easy as pie, just remove your old brakes/spindles, then set the new spindle on the ball joint, and fasten it, bolt the strut onto the spindle, and re-attach the tie rod end. Easy and straightforward. The spindles are stock thirdgen units modified to allow for mounting the caliper brakets for the Corvette brakes.
Hope I helped some, and thanks again!!

to use the stock iroc rims you will not be able to use this setup. You could run the ls1 setup or if you grind the fins on top of the c5 calipers you could use those but his rotors are the bigger 13.5" ones

Yeah with the 13.5" setup you need a minimum of a 17" wheel, and they won't fit in some 17's, such as Torque Thrust II's.
I'm not the brake expert that Ed is, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think to go from the 1LE setup to a 'Vette setup would only require new caliper brackets to bolt them up to your spindles, and of course you'd have to get hubs for the Corvette rotors to ride on.

Thank you for the kind words.
I'm trying to work out the details on the website but alas, I'm a bit busy this time of year. I hope to get it online soon, I think it will be a welcome option for brake kits as I have a LOT of new stuff coming down the line.
PM sent..thanks!
