Is there a way to tell if a Trans Am has WS6 from the VIN #?

Nope. Your best bet is to measure the front and rear sway bars.

No you have to look at the RPO codes to know for sure. They should be in the glove compartment. All WS6 suspensions had 16s so that is an easy way to tell, but its easy to change rims too...

I agree, check the RPO codes. Other indicators i think are 4 wheel disc brakes, 16in. wheels, Perfomance package emblem on the dash.

I have an 87 WS_6 and the only way to tell is by measuring the front Sway Bar or looking at the RPO codes. For the 87's here's your info. I got this info from Madmax in the History/Restoration Board so Kudos to him.

87:
12.7:1 quick ratio steering
Gas-pressurized shocks
Special springs and bushings
36mm front swaybar
24mm rear swaybar
16"x8" Cast aluminum wheels
P245-50VR16 Eagle GT 'Gatorback'(subject to availability)
Notes:Rear discs not part of WS6, mandated with the 350 TPI option. This then required the purchase of the Limited-slip rear differential as well. Purchase of TPI engine requires purchase of WS6.

rear disk brakes in 87 will not indicate WS6, my formula has WS6 and did not come with disks...

The Trans Am in 87 with the WS6 package came with the same wheels as the Formula...
