Steering Colunm Anti-Theft
Guys, i just been reading on the horror stories of (somebody) i forgot his name. But its seems that the best ways to start our cars is truht the steering colunm and such. I want to know what kind of security is out there for this, I tried a couple speed and electronics shops around here. The only things i've seen is some kind of big red logo like lockable block for the colunm. Its ugly as hell and its removable. I've also seen the nicer black sleeve tipe that is a premanant solution. BUT its' 400$ US. I forgot the name of the company.
So lets see yur security systems and the sites or 1-800 #'s of the companies that address this issue.
Thx guys

30 seconds to cut the steering wheel and remove the club, and away your car goes. Even my brake pedal to shifter club wasn't enough to stop my IROC from getting stolen.

Why don't you just put in a park/neutral switch that makes the car think it's not in park or neutral? It wont start if it's not in park or neutral. Unless they have the time to dig through the console to get to it, they can't start it.
I don't know if you can still start it in the column though. I am thinking of doing this to my car. I will also try to get one of those magnetic switches for it so the switch can only be turned off or on with a magnet. It's just an idea, but it's not very easy to steal a car if you can't start it.

I replaced the plastic steering column cover ( the part theives break to get at the ignition) with a metal one from a 78 buick. I had to drill a hole for the screw that holds the lock cylinder and widen the hole for the turn signal lever, other than than that it fits perfect. Plus its made of metal!! Oh yeah, I also wired in an electric fuel pump cut off switch.

security? try chaining a couple of pit bulls to your wheels! wouldn't it be cool to walk to your car and see some would be thief's hand in fido's mouth? Really though, I've seen steering wheels that have a quick disconnect so you can take it off and hide it or take it with you. seems like a pain but it's better than some piece of trash stealing your car! it happened to me and yeah it isn't hard to bust that steering column to start it. no hot wiring involved.

Yup, thats basically what I had, don't remember the brand since I bought it in the mid 80's. I ran mine from the brake to the shifter since the steering wheel is so easy to cut. Never thought about them taking a hacksaw to the shifter itself. They cut it just right so that it still shifted. I like the idea of the column boot up above.
I also had a fuel pump cutout switch, and I'm not sure yet how they got around that, since the switch is still fliped to the off position, but the car runs. I notice some wiring they added under the dash, so they may have bypassed the pump relay, but I haven't looked too closely because of all the glass.

Thants not the same thing I'm talking about. This one came out a few years ago. It doesn't connect to the shifter, only the brake. It says it can not be cut with a saw. It's abut $50

I thought about that...but both of my birds have been able to start and be put in any gear without depressing the brake. They wouldn't have brakes, but if they just used the shifter to slow down...they'd still get away...or just screw something up.
Sorry about your car Blue502, I was really liking the progress on it.
