Unlock the trunk with your key. It should then open. Now get a screwdriver and push the little switch thingy in where the latch is. If you're lucky - the motor will go back down, shut the trunk, and all will be well.

Is there that tab on an 89 camaro? What does it look like?

I think it was a little piece of plastic connected to the mechanism that turns to bring the hatch down. And yeah, my car is an 89, do a search on this board and the Electronics board, it might have been explained in some of them since theres been many posts on this before.

yeah, we have a push button start now. Turning the key activates the fuel pump and pushing the button fires the car up. Pretty cool actually. Timing still needs set, i may do it or wait until we adjust the valves.
I wish i had a manual one. Can you swap to one or am i stuck with an electric?

You can swap a slam latch, but it is a lot of work to do. They don't have a common mounting pattern. The best way to do it is to grab a slam latch from a car at a Pick-a-Part and cut the mount out as well. Then you can attach it to your car (pop-rivet, screw, weld, your choice). There was a reason for the switch to a pull-down unit. The problem is the motor housing is plastic and breaks where it mounts to the frame with 3 screws. I reinforce it in this area. Good luck, Lon.

lonsal, do you sell entire new pull-down assembly or just a few parts of it? Like Camrs89, my hatch is stuck halfway up, but when you hit the switch, you can hear the motor turning, but nothing happens, it keeps trying to pull the hatch down, but since it doesnt move, it wont shut off. I ended up disconnecting the connector on the motor so that if I hit the switch it wouldnt do anything. I pulled the whole assembly out and pulled it apart, the gear at the bottom is completely stripped out, the worm gear coming off the motor doesnt even engage it enough. but something is keeping me from being able to push the hatch back down. Ive tried everything I can think of, and nothing will get that hatch to move. what gives?
