Help.. removing t-top seals

I have yet to see any post on this, but what chemical does everyone use for removing the selant that holds on the t-top seals? Thanks

Oh, I should add, I don't want to wreck the current seals.. I just want to release it in some areas to fix some leaks.. since water is going under the seals in places.

i would just rip those bad boys off and re apply the whole adhesive, make sure you get it all so you don't have to redo it

I would if I could afford new seals.. But I can't right now.. plus the seals are in good shape.. just the sealant under neith is not the best.. so I need to know exactly what some of you are using to remove the old selant, with out wrecking or scratch the body, and ripping the seals.

I just replaced my T-top stripping..........tried to remove the old and reuse but it was close to impossible. When the stripping is installed, sections of if are pushed under the various channels where the weatherstripping glue was applied.
You can try and use an adhesive remover but I had to use a wire brush to remove all the old sealant. If you are having leaks, just pull back the stripping and add more sealant. Also, remove the screws that hold on the center channel, put sealant on the screws and put them back.
I have a 92 Camaro and I thought my seals were in good shape til I tried to remove them. Sometimes you learn the hard way.

my 89 bird has t-tops and they leak like a *****. all the water goes under my drivers side rear seat in that little well. it actually puddles after a good shower. i saw the t-top weatherstripe kit on third gen resourse for 175 bucks. to do this do i just tear off the old stuff and glue this stuff down? or is there adjustmentsi need to do? mine is leaking in the rear corner were the actual t-top peice meets the car peice. they don't mess right. is it possible for old weatherstriping to shrink? i am think of just sealin my t-tops on so any input would be great lol

I read the articles on this site and pretty much followed them.
When you buy a new kit, it will have instructions too.
It is best to also remove the center piece and reseal under and around it. Most leaks into the back seat seemed to come thru the screws on the center piece. If removing the center piece, pry very slowly, four of the screws (two front - two back) are under the sealant (mine has ten screws total)

well that is partly the main problem./. The whole T-Bar seal is broken.. (my fault), well you learn the hardway.. so it leaks there and in the two top corners of the A-pillers .. so far I can't locate anyone that sells a chemical for releasing the weather stripping.. But I know the body shops have the stuff.. but will not sell me anything..

As far as the A-pillar corners, you should have a piece of Strip Caulking (3M) that forms a bridge between where the roof channel meets the A-pillar channel. This is probably where your leak is. I removed my dash top to help easily remove the A-pillar trim. The stripping in the A-pillar channel may come out pretty easy. If so, very slowly pull it back and add sealant or the caulking to the space between the channels, add sealant to the A-pillar channel and put back in place. This should seal that leak.........
