Back Seat Replacement

Hey... I'm going to *replace* my [trashed, ugly-looking] back seats with some 4th gen ones. My back seats are separate, they are not connected in the middle on the back rest at all... If i replace these with 4th gen ones that are connected on the back, will there be a problem???

(i know the bolts match up & everything, but i'm wondering about this seat-connected-nessness issue.)

Thanks,

I'm not sure how the fourth gen back seats are, but i know the third gens had 2 distinct styles of back seats. On one of my cars the back rest is seperate and has handles on each side so you can lay half of it down if you want. The other car has a one piece rear seat. When i put the split back seats into my old car i had to tack weld some brackets to get it to fit. I believe that for your new seat to fit you're going to have to grind off some brackets. someone correct me if i'm wrong! i haven't done much with the 4th gen parts yet.

I have done this swap.

The only thing you will run into is: The split rear has a bar maybe 5" long that is welded to the floor, this bar goes into each seat back (it acts as a hinge for the split seat)

The 4th gen rear will bolt in w/ no trouble, but the bar will be stuck between the arear where the seat goes over the trans tunnel, it really is not a problem and you it wont be visable, if you wanted too you could cut the bar out.

It is really a piece of cake, give it a try and you will see what Im talking about.

I'm pretty sure ALL 4th gen (rear) seat backs are one piece (mine are). The 4th gen seat back does have 2 locking mechanisms (one on each side) so you're ok there, You will have to remove the center post that the split seats attach to.

Cool--- I just wanted to make sure there weren't going to be any serious complications. Thanks for the help.
