2nd and 3rd Gen seats
Are they interchangeable? I know 3rd and 4th are, but I know someone who wants some 3rd gen seats in his 2nd gen car. Any info would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

not sure on this, but I believe the 2nd gen seats are wider than 3rd & 4th gen seats. Back then they made cars for real people...
I like my seats, but there a little narrow...

I used to have a 2nd gen trans am. The driver seat was trashed so I got a set of 3rdgen seats from an 84 trans am. I pulled the drivers seat and put the 3rdgen in......bolt holes did not line up. I tried switching the tracks....those bolt holes didn't line up either.
I have seen 2nd gen cars with later model seats in them....maybe they did some serious modification.....
Here's the kicker.....I met a guy who had an 80 Trans Am with a set of 4th gen front buckets in it from a Camaro. NOW we know the 4th and 3rd interchange......since my 3rd didn't work on the 2nd, how in the earth did the 4th go in. He said that they bolted right into his car no mods.
Im stumped.
Heres a pic of my former t/a. miss this car.....its the only v8 bird ive ever owned.

Just tried this two days ago with a friend who has an 81 Z-28. I got him some free 3rd gen seats thinking they'd bolt right in. Nope, doesn't work. It's just like "billsfirebird" said with the bolt holes and tracks.
After some thinking it over I think you might be able to pull the tracks from the 2nd gen seat but before putting them on the 3rd gen seat you'd have to have a bushing/spacer in bewteen the track bolt tabs and the seat. The 2nd gen seat has metal rails that come off the bottom and one of those tracks sit on, below and next to that rail(best way I can explain it). Wihout the bushing/spacer one of the seat tracks gets pressed up into the under cushion of the 3rd gen seat. Even with the bushing/spacer I don't know if it will work since we already re-installed his old seats and never tried the spacer trick.

Those 2nd gen seats look like there are flames on the seatbottom, pretty cool looking if I didn't know they were torn, and not flames...
