Half circle to full circle gauges, some other questions...

Ok, I have a 91 RS with 110 mph speedo, which i like, but i regularly hit the govenor at 115, and soon i plan on disabling it to go even faster. I like the way the gauges are in my dad's 89 IROC Z, and i would like to switch over to that with autometer gauges. I have heard work like this is a bitch, but how big of a bitch is it, and are there any other options, because i really like the gauges i have now, but whats the point of going 145 if i cant see the gauge up that high to prove it? Oh, how fast is the RS body stable to, and what can be done to improve this, and is "Officer, that is impossible, my car is limited to 115 by the computer." a valid excuse? Would that help me in court if the cop has me clocked at like 140? (the switch for the speed limiter will be hidden)

It's a pain because the whole dash has to be swapped, not just the gauges. Some people have just removed the half-moon gauges and put a plate there with holes cut for aftermarket gauges to accomplish the same thing.

As far as your court excuse, there isn't much difference between 115 and 145 in their eyes. If you're doing either speed anywhere but a closed track you shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel. So, no, it's not a valid excuse.

The 91-92 Z28s had a 145 speedo, in the 90+ Gauge style.
