no, by guages i mean my stock ones, i could just cut the outside to make them fit right? i hope i can still use the stock gauges from my car because that will make everything easier, i am deciding on either a 4th gen or the evo but the evo is liek 800, thanks

hey, Zepher..
Couple more questions... how did you get the console to bolt up? or was it a direct bolt in? And how did you mount the switches in the ash tray? I thought the ash tray was in the front next to the lighter. AND how did you get the radio pod to work? my radio pod and my console in my third gen are connected, and they aren't connected in the 4th gen, so how did you do that?

The Ashtray is in front of the shifter in an automatic and behind the shifter in a 6 speed.
My friend cut a piece of plastic in the shape of the ashtray hole and he put 2 holes for the switches. It's just sitting in the ashtray hole loose, it's not glued in or anything.
I think the earlier firebirds had the same console as the Camaro's, so if you have one that is like a Camaro, then there is a lot of cutting for you to do.

First i want to say that u make reading this board interesting, you are always doing something cool. Question: what method did u use to attach your 4th gen door panels or are they just sitting there?

Thanks,
They are just sitting on the door. The 4th gen door handle was installed on the car, but I couldn't get the panel to fit right, so I am waiting till I get a 4th gen dash.
I did put the 3rd gen handle back on since the 4th gen one wouldn't work with the 3rd gen panel.

The drivers side handle is still together, the passenger one was taken apart. I used the stock bracket on the door and just changed the handle.
You can have both for $25 + shipping. I'll also give you the sliding door lock peices as well.
Email me if you want them.

I'm surprised this topic hasn't come up yet within this post... airbags! They'd sure make this install $2000 more expensive to do wouldn't they? Is anybody using them in these dash swaps? By not using them are you sacrificing safety in the case of an accident? I think these swaps are amazing though, they really change the look of the interior and the whole mood of the car . Keep up the good work guys! Oh yeah... if you buy a used 4th gen dash out of a junkyard in which the airbags were already opened (I'd be using my grant steering wheel though so I guess only passenger side matters.) Does that piece pop back in or should I just skip the airbag-popped dashes alltogether?

Well, I am not too concerned about the Airbags, I'd rather not have them in the car at all.
Putting in the 4th gen dash and steering wheel without aribags isn't scarificing safety, my car doesn't have then in the first place, and besides, there are the sensors and computer stuff that you'd need to get and that would be a waste of money and I wouldn't trust it. Don't want to be driving down the road and an airbag pops out and hits you in the face.
I just bought a 4th gen Leather Camaro steering wheel, I hope it bolts right on. It has a repaired center section without an airbag in it.

Seatbelts are there to hold you back from the dash.
The Airbags are there to keep your neck from snapping since the seatbelts are keeping your body back but not your head and neck.
