Something cool to replace the rear seats
I'm trying to find an alternative to my rear seats. It's been two years since somebody has sat back there, and frankly I think it would look cleaner without them, and possibly something with speakers and amps. Are there pictures of mods done with this idea? I've just ordered new seats, and the carpet will be coming soon, and when I get that new carpet, I refuse to cut holes for the rear seats. Maybe a waterbed and a tv.

This is funny and all...and the nitrous isn't coming until the carb does (still running 350 tbi unit) but that will be hidden when it happens. I can't imagine it's often that you get out of tickets when you have two bottles strapped where people are supposed to be. Actually, whatever I fill the back with, the bottles would probably fit nicely in the valleys for the rear seat cushions... Hmmm. I was thinking of a nice combination of acrylic and carpet over wood in the mean time. I was hoping for something that looks clean, mean, and is a little more useful than my ever vacant rear seats. Only good thing about riding in back of my car is looking behind and seeing the mustangs. I need to track test my baby sometime to have a better feel for what I can tear apart, regardless of the driver though. I eat mustangs, pretty much all of them. One twin turbo blew my doors off, but we don't like to talk about him

that' what I did to cover up that area...
in the future I will install my computer on top of it... for now it covers up that area very well , can be used for storage (aka throw **** on there) , it also matches my headliner , sail panels , seats and soon door panels (all made from the same material).
of course it matches the exterior and the sub box too

something like that....
I like the idea of what you did, but I would have made the surface lower (driveshaft tunnel minimum height) What materials did you use? I would probably cover it in carpet as well.

actually it would like **** if you made it any lower , if you look back there you will notice that my box sits on top of the two side plastic pieces (where rear seatbelts come from).
so that way it is supported by the front side and on side by those two plastic pieces (therefore it just sits in place without any drilling or having to make custom brackets...)
I can remove it in 20 seconds if I want to.
another thing you could do , is to make it taller and flush with the rear deck , BUT ! then you will run into problems with making it "fit" so it looks stock-ish...
I didn't try to make it flush with the back because my mp3 player will sit on top of it in a plexiglass box surrounded by neon :-) but hey , that's just me... so please keep your rice comments to yourself.
eventually my fire ext. will be mounted on there too , and so will my amplifier.
of course if you made it stronger you *coud* mount subs in there, there's plenty of space to mount two 10's , maybe even two 12's... I just prefer to have subs all the way in the back.

Go Rice!
Nobody wants to admit it, but there are some things that are cool about rice, just in a more token way rather than tough. Some well placed neon looks cool as ****. What makes a car rice is when that is the only thing going for it, and they think it's a racer.
I was trying to think what I could do back there that would
a: look good
b: suit some amps and maybe a sub and some direct firiing 69's (6x9's) The way our speakers are mounted in the pillars, it doesn't do **** for the front seats, but makes for an outragous set of headphones for the backseaters (ever rare.)
c: I don't want something that looks approachable to sit on.
d: hide the inevitable nos bottle and still be able to reach it.
e: condom stash?
:hail:

How about a box that fits over your rear seat (folded down) that can be easily unhooked, and your stereo or whatever quickly unplugged, so you can have use of your rear seat if you suddenly need it? Cover it with the same carpeting as your floor.

...how about something that nobody has even done before.... a nice 40 gallon fish tank True, it might add a hell of a lot of weight in the back, but you would get the glory of being the first to do it

I've always hated the back seats. That's why the ones in my project car are history. Instead, I'm building a custom t-tops holder all nice and carpeted with added protection to prevent scratches. I'll probably add in a locking feature as well. That's the best thing I can think to do with the area.

I like the idea of the t top holder, but can't think of one decent way to design it that wouldn't look like piles and piles of monkey rigged crap. Anybody that is photoshop literate and bored wanna whip something up? I kinda like the speakers, but somebody has already tried stealing my car a couple times. If I put a system like that in I might as well fill the tank, wrap it up and drive it over to their house. The only thing bad about the t top idea is that it is such a pain in the **** to get back there with the t tops (seat belt webbing should get HACKED) Maybe a setup where you could put them in through the rear deck, but the glass lays towards the inside. bottle of NOX on one side, an amp or two on the other side, and some forward firing 6x9's in the middle, all of which would be below the current seat back, so the view is still great out the back and feels clean. Anybody have an idea what this would be shaped like? I won't even see my car for another 2 months, so it's tough to prepare for it.:lala:

i was thinking about the tees going back there but just couldn't figure out a way to make it look good, so i was thiking about a storage bin, so my car doesn't match my room ( aka Pigsty)
On side would be a built in tool box ( you know if you happen to find a hot chick broke down on the side of the road )
The other side would be misc stuff. All the bow would match the carpet and hopefully look stock
My problem is figuring out how to bolt it done, i dot feel confortable drilling hole in the hump becuase i don't want to damage the tank

How about instead fo squaring it off like the seats, make it diaginal. Starting from the hatch area high point and goint down at an angle to floor just before the seat tracks or a sharper angle?

I've always wanted to do some drastic work back there.....wrench out the back seats, raise the floorboards to be able to fit dual exhaust.......he he....maybe move the seats back an inch and up a little (I'm kinda tall).....build a box that would hold to subs NOS bottle and miscellaneous so that the subs would be directly behind the seats.........but have it level or slanting from the rear deck then mold it down to join with the center console, but for a college student this purely dreaming...............Guess I just want to build my own car from scratch, he he

subs in the back will not work that well and will sound affull becuase the imaging is off, go the the car audio board, discussed a lot on there,
i know your thinking its bass, so what, but if the subs are farther away from you they sound a lot better and the passenger sub is not in your ear. Please no subs back there, and besides if you don't put subs back there, that just means you can fit MORE bottles of NOS

If you see a Mazda RX-7 in a parking lot or something, take a look. There's basically a little "glove compartment" behind each seat..... very basic, but it might give you an idea to get started with.

What about removing both rear seats, and making a single custom seat that faces sideways. A comfortable-for-a-full-sized-adult seat, with padding, upholstry, and seat belt. Maybe even a video monitor across (where the other 6x9 would be).
Just tossing out an idea. I wouldn't do it, but I'd like to see one just once.

That is real creative Jza, I like the way you think! Almost a Camaro limo. That got me thinking... how about taking it to the next level, and installing a waterbed? :sillylol:

Should the seat belt be a noose, or should I just put a couple pounds of foam on the back of the front seats? Liquid nails in the backrest? Or I could follow the police and just put up a fence, so they can hurt themselves, but not the driver....which is fine.
