Floor Damage

Floor Damage
When I was getting my Hooker cat-back installed I got my first opportunity to take a good look and the underside of my car. Arrgh . My trans and rear end and filthy and leaking and the damage to my floorpan was worse than I thought it was. My only guess is a previous owner was taking a "spirited" drive and bottomed out on something. There is 8" rip in the floor and and some big dents, plus my leaking 'vert hatch has caused a small rust out. So how hard is it to take out all the interior in our cars? I have no idea how to take out the back seat, I think I can figure out how to pull the rest. I want to take a weekend and pull out the interior and weld up the rip and patch the hole. Then paint the floor with and trunk with POR-15. I plan to use one of those POR-15 rust repair kits since the hole ( well more like a thin spot ) is about the size of a quarter. Do you guys think that sounds reasonable, this car is my driver so I have to keep down time as short as possible.

Probably do-able if you really bust butt. Its been a long time since I pulled my rear seats, but as I recall the bottom cushion pulls up at the back, and then you can undo a bolt at the front from underneath. The POR repair kit will work fine, I used it in the trunk of one of my musclecars.

Back seat is cake. The two butt portions are held in by a bolt right under the lip of the seat. I can't remember where the upper portion of the seast is held in, but very easy to remove. Carpet should come up quickly after removing the front seats and console. You'll need a torx socket bit to get the seat belts out, or just cut a small slash into the carpet & remove the carpet with them still in place--you won't be able to tell. Anyways, very easy to do, and don't worry about getting it back--all you really need is a seat and seat belt...

Gutting the interior is a piece of cake. Just take your time and make mental notes how everything goes in. Oh, when I took mine apart, here's what I did. Instead of throwing all the screws into a coffee can, as I removed each panel I put the screws in the holes and put a twist tie around it. This way my parts are sittting with each screw in the correct hole to make installation much easier. The hardest part will proably be the front part of the carpet. I am replacing mine so I just cut it and took it out in pieces.
Oh, and for the top of the rear seat, once you remove the butt portions, there's a 13mm nut on a stud on each lower corner of the seat.
