bulge trans am hood

Does anyone else have a problem with water leaking into the air vent in the hood and onto the air cleaner? Any fixes for this?

Re: bulge trans am hood

This has been an issue. On the ducting in the hood I believe there's a little drain. It can clog. I knew a guy in the 90s who had an 84 and it sat w all winter and the water ran into the air filter and into the engine. It worked out well for me, he sold me the car w a water logged engine for $125. I don't know if all the cars had the drain or not.

Do you have the cold air induction setup or is yours blocked off?
either way, there is a foam seal for the scoop to hood and for the cold air induction cars, a draintray that bolts to the lower part of the screen under the hood.

I see, good to know, I've owned this car for 25 years and somehow didn't know that. Yes it's cold air induction. I will look for it, thank you

There's a great thread of all the parts used on here someplace but can't find it right now

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...-trans-am.html article with everything you need to know about the functional scoop

My car has the Drip rail (GM #10028254) which stopped that problem

Re: bulge trans am hood

Thats a great article, thank you. I tried doing a search, but I didn't come up with anything. I want to say my car is an earlier 83 car, so I'm curious if it has that drip rail of not. I should be able to look at it today.

Re: bulge trans am hood

Well I took a look at it, and it does have the part. It's clean and no clogs. We did have a heavy rain, maybe it was more than it could flow at the time.

Re: bulge trans am hood

The deteriorated foam seal can also let in a ton of water

I took the airbox out. I don't see a seal. Where is the seal located? Is it between the ornament and the hood?
