swapping TA interior to Z28?
I want to swap the door panels, console and maybe the dashboard.
I have no idea why GM kept those ugly arm rests and pull handles in the Z28 even after the Ta's got new ones in 89. Can these be removed from a TA and bolted to a 91 Z28? I'm not sure about the brackets on the door itself.
The console seems straight forward... maybe some trimming around the pod?
A dashboard would be hard I know... but is it possible?

i just put firebird (not sure which model) doorpanels in my '88 SC yesterday and i know you have to do a lot of triming to put the stck camaro trim back on, so don't mess it up like i did
you can't use a firebird dash pad in a camaro cuase its too short. dont know aout the actual dash though or the console
hope this helps

You'll pretty much need to swap both the console and dash at the same time; the Firebird console won't fit up to the Camaro dash and vice-versa. The only difference in the mounting points of the two dashes are about halfway up the doorpost where the bottom corners of the dash mount to the bracket which is spot-welded to the doorpost; the brackets themselves are different and would have to be switched between Firebird and Camaro.

This view is fom the front of the vehicle looking at the back side of the dash; the circled bracket is the one I'm referring to.
Outside of that, everything else should swap over. I have all the interior pieces from an 86 Firebird in my SC, save for the dash and console.

do you mean the trim on the kickpanels, sail panels etc... or the trim on the door needed to be cut?
were the new panels the type with the molded armrests and door release... or the panels with the large black rectangle?
thanks
Oh... and Pete... where did you get the schematic drawing from? I know someone was putting together all the schematics for our cars but I don't remember where I saw them. I though it was here, but now I can't find them.

large rectangle and i had to cut the door panel not the trim, here is a pic of easy part which somehow i messed up
the holes dont overlap right so youl be able see a gap and since there is a kind of triangle hole the existing screw holes on the door are covered up and you have to hack away, i wasn't thinking and using precise clippers to take a litlle at time to get to the hole and went way overboard thinking the trim would cover it up. on the other side you have to cut a huge hole in order to slide the other end of the trim nder the door panel cuase the firebird has a smaller trim and the camaro version doest screw on that side, just simply tucks under the door panel, so you have th cut a hole for it to do that, i did that fine and they a clean cut, but as you see above, only i can screw up the easy part

Stuart... I see now what you mean.
You have actually done the opposite of what I want to do. I want to take the arm rest, triangle shaped door handle, etc... from a 89 or later TA and use them to replace the existing square ones. I think the interior matched arm rest etc... looks better than the large rectangle style... just my opinion
Maybe if Pete has a schematic of a 91 door assembly

I, too, had the thought of swapping a Firebird dash into my SC (just to be different, unique), but found this out when I tried a 'dry-fit' of the 'bird dash into the shell of my old Z28.
Pete
EDIT: Sorry, no luck with the door panels....
