Undercarriage Restoration

Undercarriage Restoration
What is everyone doing to restore their undercarriage and protect it from rust? I’ve used POR15 on the inside of my other car. It’s great but working on my back leaves some concern. I’m thinking of wire brushing and zinc spray.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Undercarriage Restoration
Happy your taking care of the undercarriage, just be sure to take a few breaks for yourself. Lucky I do not worry much about rust as we live in Colorado and the car was originally an AZ car (we are third owners, one of my brothers owned our IROC before me). Just finished dismantling my 88 IROC-Z Convertible and sent it off for paint. getting up/down and getting to those hard to reach bolts and screws can wear on you... take your time

Re: Undercarriage Restoration
When I did mine I put a tarp down (car was on a lift)and sprayed WD40 all over the undercarriage and watched all the surface rust just fall off
then I used 3M Undercoating.
then I used 3M Undercoating.

Re: Undercarriage Restoration
Car up on stands high enough so I could sit up underneath it.
Removed the undercoating with an assortment of solvents, scrapers and brushes. That was a PITA.
Tarped over with an exhaust fan to draw out the dust from sandblasting. Just the rusty bits like the seat belt reinforcements and a few problem areas. There were no perforations which is what I had hoped for when I bought the shell.
Then wiped down again, this time with silicone and wax remover.
Then an etch primer followed by a close to original Dove Grey both via spray bombs.
Came out pretty good I think. And it's held up well after a dozen years or so.
I loathe undercoating.
And POR 15 to me is reserved for items that were black to begin with. Axles. A-arms. Etc. (Personal preference is all).
