body panels

hi , im currently re-doing an 88 gta trans am and am trying to find some nos body parts or good rust free ones. Basically im hunting for the inner rocker and cowl to floor gusset and rear quater to floor gusset. What happened to the old gm stock on these cars? Surely not all the parts were used. Who buys there old stock when they discontinue parts? Thanks for any info.

Re: body panels

GM doesn't surplus the remaining NOS inventory to a third party, not in the manner you're thinking. When GM writes off a warehouse of body panels, they're crushed and recycled as scrap.

Re: body panels

Those panels are long since discontinued and unavailable as nos. Aftermarket has not started producing them yet.

Sorry. I talked to a guy one time, he was buying a hood from me, told about how he worked at a GM warehouse, and when they purged a stack of fenders or quarter panels, whatever, they'd drive over them with a forklift and send em off to be scrapped.

Re: body panels

I have a fairly clean coupe shell that might have some pieces on it you could use. The rails are nice, the floors aren't too bad, the trunk is in good shape except for a dent from the forklift, and even the drivers side cowl isn't horrible like most of them. I'm going to scrap it, let me know if you want to come look at it. I'm in Fort Wayne.
