Modify stock IROC hood for 2.5” cowl

Anyone think it’s possible to cut and splice in some material to take a stock iroc hood to a cowl hood? I need clearance for my
lsa.

Sure it is. I remember an article back in the 90's about how to turn any steel hood into a cowl induction hood. Think it was in truckin magazine.

That would look cool when done correctly. Just make sure it doesn't wind up looking like this:

Too bad you are so far away. I have a factory iroc hood that would be the perfect candidate for getting cut on.

i really don’t like those hoods. Stock is best but I don’t think I can cram the lsa under it.

Probably a lot more trouble than it's worth; trying to graft fiberglass onto metal (if that's what you're considering), and removing the underhood support structure in the stock hood usually doesn't work out well. Instead, look into buying a steel aftermarket hood with whatever-height cowl you require.

see here is my issue, I like the factory look and there isn’t a Cowl hood out there that looks good....

I wasn’t considering using glass. I was wondering if anyone had done it with metal.

The article I read used all metal (Welded). I hated the turbo hood. It was the vents on the side of the scoop, that ruined the look of those, imo.

No worries. If you can't find the old truckin or car craft article, just try googling "how to make a steel cowl induction hood." I made one a long time ago on my 2004 Chevy dually. Came out pretty sweet. As a bonus, people would come up to me and ask where I bought my hood.
The thirdgen has two body "channels" ( lines) that run up the hood. It is in these channels that you want to cut. I used my plasma cutter, but I would really recommend using a cut-off wheel, as the cut will be much cleaner. You want to cut in the channel, about 1/16" or so to the inside of the groove. I'm not sure it's making any sense, the way I'm trying to explain it.

Re: Modify stock IROC hood for 2.5” cowl

its definitely possible. You may want to buy a weld on cowl induction hood scoop and use that as your template. When you have it layed out on your flat hood you can cut and bend as needed and then cut the side sections out of the weld on cowl. I gotta warn you though, when i did mine you will have sooo much time in welding the cowl on so you dont warp the heck out of it. if you done have much exp. welding sheet metal buy some to practice on cause you can go sideways real fast if youre not careful.

There is, but in steel they are 4" tall and up. Otherwise you get that awful raised crease down the center that plagues the 2-1/2" version. If you are going to cut up two hoods though you could probably do away with that silly crease on the 2-1/2"... I don't know that out of the box hoods are wide enough to make the Z28 treatment look right though...

Here's what I did with mine, a little different than what you're talking about but concept is similar. Instead of cutting it off entirely you could prop it up and weld fillers on the sides
