Aluminum Rear Window Louvres

In the process of restoring an 86 IROC-Z and noticed that my car has the mounting brackets for rear window louvres installed in the glass. I’d love to get a set of them, but they all seem to cost over $200 and are made of plastic. Anyone have good luck with a specific product? Anyone know where you can find OEM louvres, or at least metal ones? Thanks.

Check the RPO codes. Look for DE1. If the code isn't there, they're not factory, in which case I'd remove the brackets and sell them to someone looking for the brackets and retire to a private island in the Pacific. If you can find the factory style louvers, they're aluminum in the middle with plastic side pieces. Some of the aftermarket styles are similar. The only ones still available new are all ABS and generally hideous, rattly, and not worth messing with.

My wife's 1987 has the louvers, but was missing some of the brackets. I couldn't find any online so I ended up having to fabricate a set. I'm sure you could sell your brackets really easy.

I personally love the 1980's look of louvers and scoured the internet for a set to put on my 1985. The only ones that look good are factory aluminum style, or the Crager ones. Neither have been made in years, so if you find one you will probably have to trade your first-born for them. All the new ones available online are cheap plastic, and be warned that some of the websites are advertising them with a picture of a thirdgen member's car with Crager's and NOT the crappy plastic ones you would actually receive.

If they are advertised as Willpack or Astra Hammond they are cheap ugly plastic, no matter what the picture actually shows.

if you do end up selling the brackets and they are OEM I'll take them off your hands.

Unless you're hunting for louvers without third brake light provisions. Then all you'll find are the 86 style and 91-92 style with provisions for the third brake light on top or inside the glass.
