Sanding.. Priming.. and Aligning Fender & Door... help!!
I haven't been on the boards for a few weeks now and in about 2 weeks when my dad comes home from work we're going to start sanding and priming the car. We are going to put the other door on the other side so I won't have one door with power windows and locks... and one door without. The only problem we will have is aligning the fender and door. When we put the 1990 Firebird door on my 1991 RS you could tell the space was there. I guess because the door is red and my car is dark blue. But I'm ordering some used fenders and wondering will this help? If not how do I fix this gap between the fender and the front of the door?? I've seen this problem on A LOT of 3rd gens and I don't want it to look like that when I get my car painted. Both sides are like this by the way. Thanks in advance!

One problem that occurs when you install a used door is that the factory had a fixture the was used to locate the door precisly on the car. Before the door was installed. If you look closely at the door hinges you will see that the forward most bolt hole on each door hinge is exactly the size of the bolt. So when the door is installed there is no possibility of adjustment. You cannot adjust the door at all. So what many people do in this situation is to drill these 2 small hole oversize. The adjust the door forward, backward, whatever. I have done this myself on my '86 IROCZ project car. The donor door I installed was way too far to the rear. It nearly hit the body.
Unfortunatly this means you will have to remove the door again to drill out the holes to 3/8" or so.
