trackspec louvers vs cowl hood
Hey I'm currently shopping for a hood for my 85 iroc. The plan is to build a twin turbo car. The cowl hood shouldn't be necessary but I'm thinking more in terms of keeping the temp down in the engine bay. Which will work better to extract hot air? I love the look of a 4" cowl hood on our cars but I'm also really digging the stealthy look of the trackspec louvers on a stock iroc hood. Any opinions or firsthand accounts?

Re: trackspec louvers vs cowl hood
I have a 4 inch cowl on my car. I need it for engine clearance. It is a straight line car. If it were for auto x or track days there are visibility issues and do not recommend it. As for heat I have not driven it on the street. At the track with a stock rad and a BBC it would only go to 200 deg. with electric water pump on at the end of a run. I am currently working on a TT LS swap as a street /strip car. It is an LQ4 with the truck intake so I still need the 4 inch for clearance. Hope this helps

Yeah I suppose I didn't even think of the visibility. My old iroc had a 4" cowl hood. Admittedly it did get in the way from time to time. I did turn out in front of someone and got hit once too. I won't blame it on the hood but I didn't see them coming lol. Definite points for the trackspec louvers.

Re: trackspec louvers vs cowl hood
I have a 2" cowl hood and I have full visibility. IIRC those track spec louvers might have had the design or plans bought off a member here. I recall that a member was selling a small production run that he had made with his own money, price was about the same. I myself am interested in a pair however I absolutely object to the price they are selling for. The design is only two pieces of relatively thin steel or aluminum cut with a laser and bent to shape. That's an insane markup. Also with those you would have to be very cautious of driving in the rain as it would be an easy path from the louver to the distributor.

Yeah I thought I had seen them before lurking on here. I only came across the trackspec ones because I have a c5 and a lot of C5 guys that track their cars use the track spec extractors. So I figured I might give em a shot. The car will be a fair weather car. If I can help it. It won't be out in the rain.
