Hatch Glass

Is there anybody out there that sells the hatch glass? I've looked but can't find anything. My glass is good but the defogger is done for. The glass had 25 year old tint on it and I stripped it over the weekend. Per advice I got from youtube search, I used Aircraft remover and it didn't work worth a darn. I ended up getting a bit agitated and taking a razor blade to the entire window. No more window tint, no more rear defogger. While the defogger still appears to be there, it's done for.

I wouldn't consider replacing the window for that alone as the operation of the defogger is inconsequential to me. I'm considering replacement for 2 reasons now: defogger and the black strip around the outside of the window is rusted and assume just that piece cannot be replaced??? Don't know.

I know they're expensive and it may sound crazy to some of you, but, yeah, I'm willing to pay to have the whole thing replaced for those two reasons.

Any info on replacement glass or replacement metal strip around the glass would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Hatch Glass

Rear hatches are about the easiest part to find that nobody seems to want to buy. I had one and only sold it because it was the color someone wanted. Almost took it to the dump twice.

Check craigslist in your area for someone who parts these cars or add your location to your profile so someone here can offer to help - there's always someone.

Re: Hatch Glass

Who needs the defroster? *shrug*

If I had an extra hatch laying around, I'd be ecstatic if someone came along and said they'd like to carry it home. I've had a few extras, lucked into giving them away. I could have a few more laying around, but I avoid taking them, like I avoid the plague.

Re: Hatch Glass

Be careful during removal/assembly. It doesn't take much flex (if the deck lid is off) for that back glass to pop.

Re: Hatch Glass

Thanks for the info, fellas. Found one online for $650, even the same color, black. Looks like it has the same corrosion issue on the trim as mine, though.

Re: Hatch Glass

Is your trim too far gone to be sanded and repainted? It’s an issue that has plagued many of these cars and the common fix has been to sand and repaint.

Located in WV, north eastern part.

Painting the trim is an option. Looks like it'dbe a tedious pain, but I'm not a body man.

Ammonia, noting more than ammonia needed. I don't know why people struggle with this. I used to remove tint at a garage for inspections. Some of it super old. It's SO easy to remove.

Have you thought about Percy's Speedglass? I am thinking about using it, but would like to see how it looks and how to install it before I pull the trigger.

I have a hatch, you can have it for free if you want to pick it up. The deck isn't the greatest, I got it for the spoiler. It didn't have tint though, I don't know how well the defrost works. I have another hatch that I could take the deck off if you need one.

Re: Hatch Glass

I have seen multi rollover Camaros on this site where the back glass didn't break!
probably what they're so hard to sell.
Don't pay over $100, they're out there
Be patient

Re: Hatch Glass

think i'm merely going to deal with the rust and try to refinish the trim. not really worried about the defroster at all.

. . . now, if someone had a glass that had trim that wasn't corroded to hell and back, i'd definitely be interested.

Re: Hatch Glass

I am fairly sure the one I have the trim isn't terrible. But the lid needs to be replaced.
