Actually Un4given is right, I have run a couple of vin#'s through & they all come back Sport Coupe, Z28 Its the same vin id for both cars, I believe the berlinetta & IROC are the only 3rdgens to have different vin id's for their body line

The vin decoder saysSport Coupe, Z28 If you noticed that comma in there, that means you have a Sport Coupe or an Z28.As unforgivin89 said, they used the same vin number, which is FP.The only exception is for the berlinetta which got its own vin code.In other words you dont have a Sport Coupe Z28.You have a 2 door coupe Z28,or a 2 door Sport Coupe.

Also while were on the subject of VIN's, the letter "I" is never used. So the VIN should read 1G1FP87H1GN169658.

Also hot86z-28, one other way to tell is if you have ground effects or not. The Z28 all had GFX and the SC did not. Starting in 88 SC had GFX.

Now you can call it what you want but what is it really. It's like I call mine as 86SS but there really is no such thing, you know what I mean. There was an aftermarket SS built by Choo Choo customs. Many people on this and other boards get touchy about the Z28 clones because there is an actual Z28 made by Chevy. To these people you either got one or you don't. However it is possible that your car may have the same engine as the 86Z28, as mine did. The original owner of my car ordered the all Z28 performance options that he could yet did not get the apperance stuff. Too cheap I guess. He probably should of just got a Z28 for a few more bucks, but I just added the apperance stuuff since he bought the performance stufff, hence the SS moniker I slapped on.

Check your engine and see what you have.
