Body Trim

Hey guys I am two months in the Third Generation community(92 RS), and now that I have my vehicle tuned up and in good running condition, I am starting to look for body trim parts. I am going to paint it come spring and I wanted to know where have you guys found the cheapest body pieces? Its snowing here so my junkyard parties will be postponed until the spring

First, Welcome aboard KCSlim!

I don't know about cheapest. I can tell you from what I've read that some of the replacement (IE: imported) replacement body panels (especially front fenders) seem to get very negative reviews around here. The general consensus seems to be to find good, clean, used OE parts if you can. Much less time will be required in fitting them.

Hawks (a site advertiser) is one good source.

I love the '91/'92 RS's, BTW. And teal too. Post some pictures when you have a chance.

Re: Body Trim

DynoDave's advice is sound. I've been a victim of the reproduction front fenders. No matter what I did the fenders would not line up with every panel. One panel or gap was always off be it the hood, front bumper or door. Good to usable factory parts are the best solution for these cars. I haven't read a good review for any reproduction body part for these cars. Well, except for hoods or the fiberglass nose pieces that are not street legal.

Alright I definitely understand that. And hey maybe I will get to negotiate a bit on the prices for the replacement parts if I buy from a personal seller parting out a car!!!

Prices will vary significantly depending on how prevalent a certain car is in wrecking yards and how many wrecking yards there are locally. If you only have one in your area don't expect them to budge on price. I had only two yards in one of the areas I used to live in and when I was making my hubs for the LS front brake setup I needed a set of old rotors and one yard quoted me $25 a piece. I brought up that I could buy a new one for that cost and offered $25 for the pair. He said go buy them new then and hung up the phone.

I wouldn't pay more than $100 for an assembled door or $50 for a front fender. Front noses and chin spoilers that are rip and hole free shouldn't be more then $100.

I wouldn't bother with the larger junkyards. They probably won't have anything, and what they do have will be completely picked over. Watch Craigslist. There are always a few people parting thirdgens. There are always deals in the KC area.

Yea the Pick N Pulls/and U Wrench its are pretty picked through :/...good news is I have found 2 of the 3 parts I need on ebay for less than $100! I will definitely keep my eyes on the CL ads. Thanks
