86 Trans am Hood grills

Hello. I have an 86 Trans AM and it is in the body shop for paint. The guy painting it asked me if I wanted the screens in the grills painted. Its a little weird because two of the grills have a black plastic screen. The other two have a metal screen backing with no paint. Does anyone know how these came from the factory? Did the metal ones just stay without paint? The car is White.

Re: 86 Trans am Hood grills

I had the same issue a while back.IIRC when I did mine ,they did appear to have had paint on them at one time, they appeared to look like a Brassy color so I decided to have the shop paint them Black to match the other two.
I just went on Firebirdcentral.com and they have a NOS set and they are Black.

Re: 86 Trans am Hood grills

Thanks. I told the guy to pop them off and paint them black to match the plastic ones. At least they will match that way.
