1983 Camaro T Top Question

I have an 83 Chevy Camaro with t tops, the thing is my driver side t top flew off on the freeway. I went to the junkyard and found an 87 Firebird and an 85 Trans AM but the glass did not fit my car, my tops are an inch or 2 smaller. They use the pin type and have a chrome latch. The glass does not have a darker colored border around the edges like I see a lot of other tops have. Does this mean I have the C&C type t tops? Where can I find these? I live in San Diego. Sorry this is my first post and I have no idea about my own car.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

Welcome to the board, you came to the right place.

Does your T-tops have a trim piece covering the front & back edges of the roof where it meets the t-top gasket or does the roof roll into & under the gasket like this one does.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

I have no idea... There are metal strips on either side, i'm guessing that's trim. Ill take pictures in a bit and upload them. Thanks for your help.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

Easiest way to tell is the with of the sheet metal above the windshield, factory T-tops are about 2', C&C are twice the width.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

It's an 83 with a 92 v8 engine in it. Also alot of the things from the 92 were put into the car like as there is the 25th anniversary edition logo on the dash.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

The ground effects, wheels and TTops are all 91 era. The interior door panels and seats and exterior doo moldings are '88+ and the gear shift **** isn't '83. I don't think C&C was doing any/many ttops in 1983 since ttops were available on every model from the factory. The C&C tops were popular on the 91/92 models since you couldn't get TTops on certain models.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

The C&C tops were popular on the 91/92 models since you couldn't get TTops on certain models.

I've never seen a 90-92 (in person) with C&C. When in scrap yards I would even look the 90-92 roofs specifically searching for decent "plexi" T-Tops....... When it comes to 82-89 I've laid eyes on & least 2 dozen Camaro / Firebirds with C&C's.

Always wanted - and never did - find a set of those C&C tops that would "flip" open. Were they a myth ?? Anyone got a picture of those C&C tops ??

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

Not a myth, my 84 has em. I think I saw a 91 or 92 once, years ago, but C&C went out of business in the early or mid 90s.

I didn't know C&C was involved with the Camaro so early on. Thanks for the info.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

Have the Hurst tops ever shown up in a third gen? They first showed up in 76 in the 2nd gens and phased out when the Fisher tops came in.

Re: 1983 Camaro T Top Question

I think they stopped using Hurst well before that.C&C might have been created just so Hurst could stick to shifters.
