Center console
I have an 89 firebird. Can I take the center console of like a 94 TA with a 6 speed and cover up the 6 speed thing with a custom sticker and bolt that in my firebird? Would it fit and do all the bolts line up? I want that Damm cup holder.
Thanx

I have seen pics of it done, and it looks good, but its not a direct bolt in. I have also heard its alot easier to put in a standard thirdgen than an auto. There was a post yesterday, but it got erased when the server went down about a guy who got a console from a 93 camaro, and he said it did not fit worth a sh*t. He said it was about 1.5" below the radio pod.

I put a stick center console from a 93-94 T/A into my 86 T/A--I didn't have any problems and it was a direct bolt in. Only problem would be--to figure out how you want to put in your pwr window switches and your mirror switch. The bolts in the glove box line right up w/the holes in the body-and the lower piece that sticks out in the center console slides right under the radio pod.

97+ center console in a 92
It can be a direct bolt in, however I found it easier to drill new holes for the shifter about 1/2" to the left of the old ones and move the shifter over a little to allow for the neutral safety switch to have better clearance of the boot and shift plate.
The rear bolt holes line right up, the middle one doesn't get used. The radio pod will hold down the front end.
Easy to do.
Edit: No they don't come carpeted, I did that. With my audio setup, I needed to minimize reflections from the center console that were caused by the hard plastic. Caused some strange imaging problems that cleared up when carpeted.

Get the 97+ console, that way you will get 4 cup holders on the console. I am going to use the flip out one more than the console one since I have a 5 speed in my car.

I got a console off of eBay from a '00 TA. I'll be installing it over break, I will take pictures. The tricky part is going to be getting the automatic shifter to work with the automatic plate. I know that someone on here got it to work, and I would like their input/help on how to make it work befor I started. I think it requires fabricating a new bracket or modifying the old one. I'll ultimately end up swapping my shifter out for a new 4th gen shifter, because my current shifter is screwed up. Don't know how to fix.

Hey Scotts85....nice floor mats...I have the same ones in my TA..except that mine are the opposite colors(black and gray screaming chicken)...well anyways the consoles in your cars look great....but it seems that the people who got the '97 and up seemed to have an easier time...is this true? Also...does it matter if it is from a 4th gen TA or Camaro??? Thanks.

It doesn't matter on whether it's a TA/Firechicken/Camaro. They are all the same. That carpet looks good GrandPrx. Where can I get some for mine!?

I have heard that the 93-96 is easier to do but I didn't have any trouble with mine, its a 2000 camaro(black),,and the only diffrence between them (camaro or firebird) is the color as far as I know.

Yeah, somehow my post got deleted. I figured out the problem though. Here goes:
the 93-96 camaro console is different than the firebird version. From the looks of it, the firebird version is a better design. The camaro version is black and the rear armrest piece is made so cheap the thing broke when I opened it for the first time out of the shipping box. The 93-96 camaro console is by no means a direct bolt in. The rear holes do NOT line up. The console also does not fit snuggly or get held down by the radio pod. I would highly suggest anyone doing this mod to either go with a firebird version of 93-96 and just paint it black, or get the 97-2002 version. Much less headache.
I did however get it in...it looks slightly less than perfect. The piece in the front that doesn't fit right under the radio pod leaves just enough room to fit a 6" neon or maybe an equalizer. I'm unsure about the equalizer though, one side of it is narower than the other and so would not provide a snug fit. I drilled two new holes through the floor to mount the console since the bolts don't line up. I also had to drill a hole for a cigarette lighter for 12v power in the shifter plate. This is necessary since the 93-96 camaros had another piece that is attached to the console that has a cigarette lighter and a tape holder in it. It looks good now, and only needs something to fill the afore mentioned gap. But if you're on a time budget or would like a bolt in piece that looks good, get the firebird or 97-2002 version. I'll post pics when I take some after I fill that hole.
In the process of instillation I lost the U-clip that holds the shifter on. Does anyone know where I can get a new one (I'm thinking the dealership...but just wondering if anyone's bought a new one there.)

As I read your comment again, I am unsure if you are talking about the shift cable clip or the shifter handle clip. The clip which I am refering is the clip that held on my shift cable. ...just to clarify
