Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
Hey All-
I'm doing a Supercharged LS3 build on an 88 Vert through Hawks and had to come up with a solution to avoid heat soak. I decided to create these and when I saw how freakin' awesome they were, wanted to offer them to everyone! Functional Aluminum Hood Louvers made specifically for 3rd Gen's - FINALLY!!. Please check out www.camarolouvers.com for lots of pics and info.

Re: Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
Its been done. Not a new thing. Producing and selling them would be new though, but I can't imagine them being to desirable for cars driven in the rain.
Here is just one of them.

Re: Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
Hi Plum92. Agreed, they've been done before but usually just by modifying the factory plastics. These are powder coated aluminum and are rigid and look great. Not for rain but cars can get wet. As long as you're moving the air escaping should keep the rain out. There will be installed pics at www.camarolouvers.com next week. Thanks for your feedback - it's appreciated

These look great, I'm going to get a set.
I couldn't see how they're mounted to the hood though?

Re: Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
There are 12 small 1/8" pilot holes (3 per side) on the outside frame of the louvers. Hardware isn't included to allow choices for mounting. You can do hex bolts, or rounded allen bolts or rivets and grind off the top to hide. You can probably epoxy them to attach although haven't tried this. You can drill the pilot holes larger for a more aggressive look and go chrome, black or body colour. The possibilities are endless so I thought it best to leave up to customer preference. The coming install hood pics should help next week. Think we're going with a black rounded allen bolt.

Re: Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
i like what your doing but thought id give some constructive criticism.
first, i would want them welded, not epoxied. some small tack welds would be fine.
second, i'd want them to bolt on like factory louvers. weld some aluminum all-thread to the back side or something. drilling new holes and bolting them on might not look good? IDK?
i do commend you coming up with a cool new product though. nice design too BTW!
JMO, wich doesnt mean much, lol.

Hi. The first sets (low profile smooth finish) and (aggressive textured finish) are being installed in my white hood at Hawks Third Gen Parts hopefully this week. (The boss has the flu). Should have a ton of photos early next week on the website. Www.camarolouvers.com.
Thanks for your interest!

Believe me we tried every conceivable method in design to allow the look to be as authentic as possible while trying to stay in the under $400 range. The first designs were too labor intensive and quickly went the way of the dodo bird. Tacking them was considered but unless your willing to tack the brace to all 16 louvers, we determined the brace could rattle which would drive people batty. We also considered your suggestion of welding on bolts that would use the factory holes but dropped this idea because of labour/time involved and trying to get the angle right trying to weld a straight bolt to an angled Louver would have made me batty! Aluminum is a tricky thing to weld (as I have been told) and didn't want the price to skyrocket. So in the end, I had to choose and thought this was the best route. Wait til next week for the installed pics and let me know your opinion then. Because your opinion matters!

Re: Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
Hi Everyone,
As promised - I now have many installed pictures of our Functional IROC Hood Louvers up on our website www.camarolouvers.com .
Check out the home page as well as the Gallery + Louvers to see what the Textured Aggressive Set looks like installed on the hood of my 1988 Convertible. We used silver screws (on a few pics) to mount them on purpose so you can easily see the mounting points. The end result (after my hood is painted) will include black allen bolts.
You can see that they're not very noticeable - even in silver. One pic shows no screws on the left one so you can get an idea of what they would look like if you rivet them on instead. The Low Profile Smooth Set pics should be up tomorrow.
The hood was cut with a ziz wheel/cut-off wheel. I would recommend using some touch-up paint to seal the cut edge.

Thanks - glad you like them! These pics are the aggressive angle (25 degrees). There is also a factory mimic low profile choice (15 degrees) that look even MORE factory. Pics of these installed on the hood will be on the website sometime tomorrow.

I think the mounting method needs to be refined, but I'm definitely going to get a set of these.

I don't know which one to leave in my hood! I was SURE I was going with the textured aggressive but then I saw the smooth factory mimic and I'm no longer sure.......
Too funny - sorry I am of no help to you on that one

Very glad you like them and thanks very much for the interest!
Unfortunately I have too much invested at this point to consider discounts. When I sell out of existing inventory it is a breakeven venture at this juncture. Market response will determine if I continue after the current inventory is sold.
Thanks

Re: Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
Well, my wife complains that I analyze things too much, so with that in mind, I do have a question...have you installed and compared the cooling effect of the 15* versus the 25*? I like the factory look of the 15*, but am wondering about the cooling difference. I realize you're in Calgary and probably haven't had any really hot days yet to see a real difference, but do you have any idea between the two? I'm definitely going to get a set!

I think it really comes down to which angle you prefer. I would 'guess' that the difference in cooling ability would really be negligible - if any difference at all. As you're driving, air is being pushed out from under the car and pulled out by the vacuum created as air flows over the louvers. Sitting still, the heat is radiant. If the air under the hood was under pressure I would say (sitting still) aggressive would cool better because there are more square inches to allow air to escape. But since the heat is only radiant, I don't think it would matter at all.
Keep in mind, I just pulled this explanation out of my **** and may have no clue what I am talking about - In defense of your wife, yes you do over think things but I have also thought of the exact same things!! Safest route is to buy one of each and let us all know! (kidding)
I have sent a couple of sets out today for some hydro-dipping that I will post by weeks end hopefully. One set in dark flames and one set in ghost skulls - no clue how they will look but am excited to see....
Thanks for your interest - looking forward to the sale!!

Re: Functional CAMARO HOOD LOUVERS!!!
You're probably right that it won't make much of a difference between the two, but it can get pretty hot down here in Charleston during the summer. I'll be running a 400 small block (should be finished with it soon), so I want to do what I can to keep things cool. I look forward to installing them soon. Thanks!

Ghost Skulls
Carbon Fiber Look
Regular Low Profile Smooth Powdercoated
OK - here they are! They're glossy (which is hard to tell from the pics)
This is kind of like customizing your customized louvers!
They are expensive ($150 extra on top of the $399) but for the few among us.... I may change mine out to the ghost skulls - they're really reaaaallly cool in person. Hope you like....
