92 Mirror Conversion - Manual to Power
Anybody know how hard or involved it is to convert to power mirrors? Are the wire harnesses already hiding in there somewhere?
Thanks...
Thanks...

Re: 92 Mirror Conversion - Manual to Power
the wire harness is not already in the car it is a stand alone harness
the plug ends for the mirrors themselves are different for 82 to 84 and then 85 and up, and the 82 to 84 switch is black and the 85 and up is gray
so get a matched set for the car you have
the camaro harness is different from the firebird as the control switch is in the door where the firebird is in the center console.
the switch itself and the mirrors are the same between both cars however the change between the years for 85 and up still applies.
here is a video i made when i did the changeover on my car

Re: 92 Mirror Conversion - Manual to Power
I did it in my 87...
Step 1, find a parts car.
Step 2, remove the mirrors
Step 3, you have to disassemble the kick panels and feed the wires from the doors to the interior of the car
Step 4, IIRC I cut the connector on the Passenger side
Step 5, Find the wires on the drivers side, and pull, really hard until they pull out.
Step 6, Trace where the mirrors plug into the power distribution (on LH side of car above kick panel) and unplug it.
Firebird Step 7, trace the wires to the switch in the center console and remove.
Obviously there is a little difference in the Camaro as noted prior that the controls are in the door, so you have to pull that through the door too... Not sure how hard that is, might be easier to cut, pull and reconnect later.
I have done it twice, it has been 10 years since I have pulled a set tho.
When I pulled the set out of the 1985, it was super duper easy as it had it's own harness. (I might not have had to cut the wires on this one)
However When I pulled it out of a 1991 I had to cut the wires because all of the wires went through the same harness that was all taped together. So it was a royal pain, and the wires were all sticky from the tape... The wires from Left Door to Right Door actually go through a loom just below the windshield behind the dash. THat if you remove your dash is really easy to do, but I suspect you do not want to do that.
