Re: Factory spoilers

That wing was specific to 88 sport coupe only. It had a third brake light mounted in it. Sounds like you car has parts from other cars, not unusual.
The 88 iroc would have the regular spoiler with a stop light mounted in it.

Re: Factory spoilers

The light on the glass is from 90-92
Sounds like you have a 90-92 hatch with an 88 SC wing on it. The wing mounted stop light is easily removed.
Many of these cars have the hatches swapped when the glass broke.

Re: Factory spoilers

90-92 hatches have a 3rd brake light in the hatch glass. I dont see one in that hatch, but it's hard to tell.

Most likely it's a sport coupe hatch that was transplanted on for some reason. I cant think of a good reason. Does your car have the holes in the quarter panels where the old 3 piece spoiler attached? Does it have body filler or welds there? If not, I'd be very, very, very suspicious about whether that was ever an IROC.

Im also not sure how the VIN can identify if it's an IROC unless the VIN indicates L98 or something.

Go look at other spots on the car with the vin number, like the doors. And make sure they all match.

This is the 91-92 hatch with the 3rd brake light integrated into it. Note that the 3rd brake light 3 piece spoilers are different than the 82-85 and 90-92 3 piece spoilers. (82-85 and 91-92 are the same, in fact)

Re: Factory spoilers

I have no holes in the quarters... I can tell you the red that u see is all over the car even behind the windshield glass and under the deck lid ... So either someone really tried to cover the color or its all original... Or oddly all the parts cars were the same red... I searched on the Internet with my Vin number and that's what it came up with the Iroc so I have no idea ... Also says 305 TBI 5.0

I think you have an 88 Sport Coupe. Does it have a TPI engine in it, or a TBI engine in it? It's possible it's an 88 IROC with a 305 TBI and someone swapped the hatch, just seems less likely than it being a sport coupe that some vin decoder site that doesnt know anything about these cars is generically saying is an IROC.

Re: Factory spoilers

Well that was kind of my thought but I actually have a sport Coupe because I don't have the holes for the three-piece spoileras far as the engine they came it. I don't know because I don't have it

Re: Factory spoilers

1988 RS also had the short open spoiler like that. My 1988 camaro was a factory 2.8L, 5 speed RS and it had that spoiler.

The Iroc should be the std. 3 pc lip spoiler

Re: Factory spoilers

Your car may have been rear ended, and some parts replaced?
I noticed in that closeup in the bumper it says 'Camaro'

Didn't the Iroc's say Iroc or IrocZ or something like that?

I thought 'Camaro' was for the base models? Like the SC

the Vin number will be what tells you if it's a true Iroc or not My first and only brand new car was an 85 Iroc with a 305 carburated (Quadrajet) carb on it and everyone swore up and down even when it was new that because it wasn't TBI that it wasn't an Iroc. I bought it from the dealer that way new so if it wasn't then the factory screwed up somewhere but in 85 that's how they came they didn't put the TPI in them until 87 as far as i can remember so you have to use the Vin number. like the others have said parts get swapped out as things get broken or someone thought at one point that the hatch off of an 89-92 RS would look good on it and swapped them out. People are weird that way unfortunately.

no the 85-86 Iroc just had Z-28 emblems on them and then the IROC stickers on the doors late 86 -mid 87 the emblems said Z-28 and had iroc-z in small letters underneath the Z-28 mid 87-89 Irocs just had IROC-Z badges as well as the Iroc door stickers. and even though those stickers were $89.00 each back then i have seen people put them on berlinetta's, RS Camaros, 4 cylinder camaro's Z-28's and even some people put them on their trucks back then.

Still my point stands, his bumper only says 'Camaro' it should then say Z28.
I think something might have happened to that car at one time, and they replaced the bumper, and rear hatch from a SC model and that is why he might have that wing.

To the OP
I actually like those spoiler better than the 3 pieces, they are getting harder to find. I put one on my 84.

Re: Factory spoilers

The car in question is probably not an IROC, as there seems to be ZERO evidence so far of any IROC specific parts.

The VIN doesn't determine anything, unless there's the engine code for a TPI motor. The TBI 305 was available in the base model and standard on the IROC model.

And TPI was optional in the IROC starting right off the bat in '85. The carbed 305 was replaced with the TBI 305 in '88, with 305 and 350 TPI being optional still on the IROC.

You're right, sort of. It will say Z28 somewhere. Maybe some years got "IROC-Z" badging, you know how GM changes stuff up randomly year to year. But CAMARO down there screams sport coupe/RS, and given he has the 88 only weirdo spoiler, that's a 1988 RS. Not that it matters much anymore with no driveline. It wont have a posi, it will have small sway bars, probably lower spring rates, and it wont have the wonderbar. Maybe a few interior differences (85mph speedo?) but for the most part... there's not a real difference. Sway bars and springs can be had in a junkyard run for less than $100 probably. Wonderbar isn't much either.
