What Hayness manual?
Hi,
I found these Hayness Manuals:
http://www.amazon.it/Pontiac-Firebir...irebird+haynes
http://www.amazon.it/Pontiac-Firebir...irebird+haynes
What is the best for me? I own a 1989 GTA, 350, automatic trans.
Are they good?
I know they look the same, but I really don't know. Price is different and cover slightly different.
Help me :/
THANKS!!
bye!!

I totally agree with mantaguy. That is the best and the most complete SHOP MANUAL EVER PUBLISHED, MUCH BETTER THAN Chilton and Haynes!!!!!! It's the original General Motors shop manual used by GM dealerships back in the 80's.
You can also find a good brand new reprint published by Bishko at RockAuto:

damn is far more expensive than the other. The one I linked seemed to me pretty exaustive, isn't it?

Re: What Hayness manual?
the Haynes manuals are o.k. for small/general work . BUT , for intensive/detailed/complicated work "NOTHING" beats the factory service manual . I have and use both , I research all but the most basic tasks . get and use both , you will not regret it . good luck .

Re: What Hayness manual?
I've used Haynes for other cars but they are near useless for third gens.
The factory service manuals are very good. Spend the money.

You can download a free 1988 version at a lot of places on the internet. Just do a search for that. Might be close enough for most purposes.
Here is one link. You have to sign up for a membership to access the area, but it's free.

Might be a bit much to download,I know my 86 book got to be at least 1000 pages and the supplement book is a close following.

I would jump on that one on Ebay, it's the same but cheaper than the one on the link I posted earlier.

Re: What Hayness manual?
Yes, I thought the very same thing.
But, as far as I know, the exhaust system should be different for the '89 model. Ok, a detail, and a simple one. But is there anything that differs?

Re: What Hayness manual?
A number of changes in 89 , vats, cold start injector delete, rear shoulder belts, rear brakes. However the only difference may be a supplement stuck in the back.

Re: What Hayness manual?
se the 89 model does not have the cold start injector and different rear brakes. But overall is it valid? Do you suggest me to print that?

Sure it's free, most stuff will be the same. Just keep in mind the differences when working on it and keep looking for an 89 manual.

Re: What Hayness manual?
I know I got an original 87 service manual for my bird for $15. It did not cover nearly as much as I thought it would. I bought a Hayne's manual and (so far) has helped me more.

Re: What Hayness manual?
So it's better for me to have both. The first (1988) Im printing for 8€ (10$), the Hayne's I'll buy for 20$ circa

Re: What Hayness manual?
the Haynes manual is a very general overview, wiring diagrams are limited and doesn't give the diagnostic flow charts the FSM has. I doubt it covers much about the VATS anti theft sytem in your 89.

Re: What Hayness manual?
Thanks for posting that Rockauto now stocks the Factory Service Manuals. If you think $98 (before discount) is steep at Rockauto, compare that to the place that has been selling these new online ever since the dealers stopped (www.helminc.com). It is listed for $149 there. I assume the one Rockauto sells included the supplement?
I've been telling everyone to look it up at helminc.com first so you get a idea what it looks like, then go to your favorite online retailer of used items (EB, CL, TGO, etc.) to try to find it for less.
