T-top resealing advice

Hello, I have an 87 camaro IROC Z28. I have been slowly restoring it after my father died. I had the weather stripping replaced. However, the T-tops still leak. I am having quite a bit of resistance finding an autobody shop willing to do the work. The place that did them last year did not really want to do the t-tops and it shows. After doing some research I realize some people have striped the t-tops from the frame including the housing unit. Then have sanded the area smooth and then sealed the weather stripping. I am feeling I want to go this far to ensure a quality seal. At this time I am unable to drive the car in even light rain. Any advice about what to do would be fantastic. Additionally, any advice about how to approach an auto body shop to do the work without cringing is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: T-top resealing advice

Id forget any body shop & tackle it your self.First thing to do is find out where the leak is coming from.Depending, you may not need to remove the seals.Sometimes the T-tops need adjusting. There are threads floating around the forum on these topics.

Re: T-top resealing advice

Thanks 84 1LE, I am grateful for the advice. I am actually having some other issues which are adding to my leaking t-tops. Indeed they do need to be adjusted. However, my doors are out of alignment as are my windows. Plus, the weather stripping was not redone well when last done. It seems the best thing for me right now is to get all these little adjustments, redo the weather stripping, and then fine tune with the adjustments. Thanks again.

Re: T-top resealing advice

If you search on this site you should be able to find the PDF that GM made for installing and testing the T-Top weather stripping. I've posted links to it several times.

Re: T-top resealing advice

Do it yourself!!!! Wonder if the place who originally did the seals took the top bar off as well and prepped that as well...atleast that's how I did mine.... When I redid mine a good portion of my leak was from a rusted ttop bar
