Will the door panels from a 4th gen work in our 3rd gens?
I am curious as i am looking at seats that come with the door panels and am wondering if they are worth getting and instaling in my 86 iroc?

Un4Given I believe installed a set into his car, but there was something about the door panels hitting the dash or something..

Nope, I just installed cup holders, my buddy Zepher is installing the door panels.
Actually my cup holders are still on my desk here, I haven't installed them yet.

You have to cut a lot of the door panel that on the top side that goes next to the dash pad. If you do a 4th gen dash swap you don't have to cut much if any at all since everything should line up.
I had to cut it since it was to fat and the door wouldn't close since it would press up against the dash pad.
When I complete the passenger side I'll write a tech article on what needs to be done.
Right now, getting my car running is the main priority.
Here is my cool looking engine bay with new Crane Cams Powermax 2050 cam with my SLP Dual Cold Air Intake.
I want to drive her so badly, so the doors will have to wait.

I know that they wont just go on and the hump at the front is gonna have to go. I have been wanting to do this for over a year and it looked do-able for a novice. Now that i got a set of 2000 Trans Am panels every body is saying its a lot worse. In fact one guy said he hacked his so bad he had to throw them away. Any body want my set!
How much is that cold air thing anyway?

I gave up on the door panels for now, I am going to wait till I get a dash to go with them.
If I can get some decent doors to play with and make a template to mount the panels, it would be much easier.
I might get a nice wide SLP PERFORMANCE decal to go onto the Cold Air Box.
I paid $185 shipped with everything, 2 boxes, 2 K&N Filters, the Wide piece, the upper radiator hose, thermostat housing, and a brand new ThrottleBody to Airbox for a Camaro that the guy tossed in. It was only used for about 150 miles.
I've seen them for $250 at www.thunderracing.com and $299 at www.slpeng.com.

all this ****ign pain in the *** work to install stupid ugly looking 4th gen stuff that the 4th gen guys have. Just go buy a 4th gen.
Me on the other hand, I am using my techinal drawing skills to design my own interior peices. I've been talking to Kempsville Fabrications they do plastic ****, and the guy says he can make just about anything i can draw specs for, with reasonable prices.
I might become the first 3rdgener with a true custom interior.
My pictures so far look rather cool.

Geez, thanks for that insightful and deep commentary. I never realized that sub consciously I wanted a fourth gen. Or maybe I want a Corvette since I put vette seats in, or maybe a Sable since I added a digital clock for one. Maybe not all of us have your technical drawing prowess so we make do with what we can get. I happen to think, as well as most of the people in this post, that the look of the "ugly fourth gen stuff" is awesome. But then again upon deeper reflection, maybe you're right. I can wait to drop in a LS1.

4th gens are cool and all, but to me, the 3rd gen body is more appealing. There are some aspects of the 4th gen body that I do like and would like to add some of those elements to my 3rd gen.
I want to put in a complete 4th gen interior and drive train into my car and paint it Silver with black accents.

i agree with zepher. i would love to have a 3rd gen maro with the drivetrain and interior from a 4th gen. and i think most of us could use some money. i just spend almost $200 for car stuff for my engine build that im starting this weekend. and thanx to un4given for the ovrelays, ill have white faced gauges.

Zepher:
just got my fourth genners today. I can see why
u quit working on the project. Some things that u should note should u attempt to tackle this job. The door panels (at least mine) are molded plastic so its a little tought to make them fit and the mounting is completly different. I look forward to the challenge and any help from anyone doing this mod is welcomed.
My thought was to use expanding foam and some kind of plastic to create a mold so that the door panel closes better to the dash.
anybody, spill the details, we need details?
I will be writing an article on my progress once it warms up around here.<BR>

did you also get the matching door handles? I did and it looked sweet, I just couldn't get the panel to fit right.
Send me pics of your progress cuz I really want to put the panels in my car.
