It would probably cost a lot less, to sell your car, and pay a little more for a convertible model like it. Plus, it would take A LOT of time, money, and skill for an after-the-fact job to be anywhere near as good as a convertible commissioned by GM.

To really do it right you'd have to find a totalled ASC convertible, preferably as new a camaro or firebird (whichever you have) as possible as the parts improve each year. Then you'd have to perform some mods to stiffen the body, and find a shop that would be willing to do the work. If you were to take a few days and price out some various convertible specific parts (rear interior, trunk lid, tonneau cover, etc) you'd see that you'd probably spend more getting the parts together for a conversion than what you'd spend to buy a well used ASC convertible. After you sell your current car of course.

I agree, sorry to rain on your parade man . But as the owner of an real 'vert I know their is a lot of parts you'll have to locate. However, most of the convertible interior panels ( but not all ) are just the t-top pieces cut down. But you'd still probably have to find a junked 'vert to get all the parts you would need to convert your car. Plus you'd still have to find a shop that was willing to do the work. If you do find a convertible to use for the swap, 92 is the best year. Good luck.

I'll chime in with my agrement. There are so many parts that were specific to the 'vert and so much work involved in removing them from a wrecked 'vert (if you could redily remove them all). Let alone attaching them properly to the car you are converting. If you just want a summer cruiser and looking to cut the top off and not add a convertible top, then I suppose you can do it. That is IF you properly reinforce it. There was a lot of reinforcement installed by ASC with rivets, industrial adhesives and welded in place. But if you are looking to build a 'vert just as ASC did it, forget that notion. Sell yours and buy a vert. You'll be way ahead both with the finished product and the hit to your wallet.

I know where I can get a 92 T/A convert for 3 grand... its pretty banged up though...
Needs a top, It might be easier to take pieces off a donor car... Add some Sub frame connectors etc.

It would windup costing ten times what it's worth. If you look around they can be found. This is the time , in the spring the price will go up. A word of caution a new top done right can cost the better part of a grand.
