Maybe 1500 to $2000.00 for a real good job that gives you a right to complain about microsopic dust. If you do all the prep work you self you might just save alot of money. You car doesnt require any body work does it? They will get you on that. Do you know how to wet sand?

up at night.. haha..didnt dent or anytihng
fiberglass bumper, it just spiderwebbed
a spot about the diameter of the rim of
a pepsi can, but I asked a body shop bout
fixin just that part once, an they said
150 bucks for that part.

What do you mean by "don't want paint over paint?" Do you want it stripped? If so, thats about 6-8k. A good paint job with good materials (on top of the factory paint) would go for about $3500-$4000.

Good
fast
cheap

Choose any two.

Also remember that decent materials for a job like that runs $500-$1000. With that in mind, hows that $1500-$2000 paint job gonna be?

You could save yourself some hard cash by taking everything off (handles, belt moldings, bumper covers, ect. off yourself, and some preping too.

No, 6k-8k for a stripped to metal show quality. If it's prepped correctly, the base coat will stick to your factory coat just fine. A primer/sealer should be applied to any surface that may need it, and sandable primer to any repair areas, like dents w/filler, or sanded through areas. You want as little material as possible to get the job done. If for example, your door is perfect, no dents, scratches, chips. Scuff/sand it flat and put the new blue basecaoat right on top of your factory blue. This keeps the paint bill down, and your door won't have a ton of paint on it, for no good reason.

My advice is to take EVERYTHING off yourself. GFX, door handles, belt moldings, covers, mirrors, side markers, everything. This will save you a ton of cash. Cash you could be spending on better paint/painter or mod parts.

Nice looking car BTW, Good luck.

I don't mean to step on anybody's shoes, but if you get a regular old body shop production paint job, it will run you from $1500-$2500. That is painting over paint. Now, there is nothing wrong with painting over paint, if there were, you would be able to lay down more than one coat. I have four layers of different paint on my T/A, and two on my Elcamino, and two on my Riviera. I used to paint show cars for a living and I would charge atleast $8000 for a show quality paint job. All the way up to $35000. I only stripped all of the paint off when I needed to. But your rear bumper doesn't even sound like a problem. Just some cracked paint. They shouldn't charge any more for that. If they do, walk away.

I've got a question for you guys. I'm looking at what doing what blubird is doing. If I prepped that car (all sanded down to 800 grit, oil free, and ready to spray) how much could I expect to pay? Also how much do racing stripes add to the cost? I plan to wetsand and buff myself too. And yes I'm broke and trying to save every dime I can.

Nice ride Bulebird.

So do you guys think it will be
alright to paint over the paint then..
I was a little worried bout that cuz
of the couple of spots on the top behind
myh t-tops the paint is peelin off.
also.. I wantedd to have like lighter
blue ghost flames across my hood and along my fenders.. is that going to put
the pricee way up in a ridiculous spot?
