2nd or 3rd Gen...

alright guys...i have a 1983 camaro, doesnt have an engine so iv been looking for good deals, so when i finally came accross one, i was pumped, but there was one problem, it was in a car. This car is a 1980 camaro, body is in perfect shape and the engine is cherry, exhaust all brand new, i mean, the works, my question. When i buy this car should i take the engine outa that car and put it in my 1983? (the 1980 have to have ALL new interior) or should i keep it in the 1980 and build that up? i ask this in here because im wondering how hard it would be to fix up the interior in the 1980? i know its not third gen, but i need advice...thanks guys!!

is there any way one of yall could list the pros and cons of the 1980 vs 1983?

I'd take the the 2nd gen camaro, it sounds like the total package. It's an "in between" car, kick a$$ old school carbed power with todays' suspension technology.lowered springs, poly bushings, better sway bars. I know a 77' TA in town that took me in my 91'5.7L in turns and on 1/4 mile

I would stick with the 2nd gen. The interior fix isn't nearly as difficult as a drivetrain swap plus there are so few nice 2nd gens left on the road, don't ruin this one.

I agree, buy the 2nd gen & work with that one since it is as good of shape as you are saying. Don't tear it apart if its that nice.

You can buy engines & transmissions for your 83 in almost any salvageyard. The SB Chevy is so common its unbelevable.

I did buy that 1980 camaro, and it is a heap of crap. haha, but highly fixable, and i am going to take the time to do it. I did find out the interior isnt that expecive to replace, altho i am at a loss of parts still, maybe you guys can help me, front spoiler extentions as well as the rear thing right in front of the back tire. hard to find. also the tach doesnt work, how come? this beast needs a new carb, paint, interior, thats it, then she is good to go. good car all around, brand new eng. and exhaust, sounds nice. wish he would of kept it that original blue, that was a beautiful color. altho one of the doors on it is ugly red with a black strip down the side. ahaha, that will be changed. thanks for the advice guys! is there a second gen board around thats about this helpfull?

I would take the 2nd gen in a heartbeat, that is the last of the big body camaros. only my personal opinion, but anything before 1980, with those ugly cow catcher lookin front ends..blech, if it was that i would keep the third, but this big body is hot, keep!

Car: 86 z28
Engine: Hyd. roller 498
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 12 bolt 3.90 gears
I also got myself a second gen Camaro('79) around six months ago. The interior needs to be fixed but its not that bad. I imediately put in a rebuilt (Mild)454 BBC ,beefed up 700r4, 3.90 gears w/axles replaced and a posi unit, new wheels and mastercraft tires, 750 Holley , B&M console shifter, and ofcoarse dual exhaust. Right now I need to put in a new waterpump and new radiator because the fan along with shaft seperated from the water pump and messed up the radiator. Good thing it messed up the rad and not my head! Good choice on the second gen. Camaro.

Car: Looking
personally i don't care to much for the looks of 74-81 camaro, if i were to get older than 82 it would be 67-73, don't get me wrong though 74-81 is an alright looking care, but sheesh every one i've ever seen was all beat up and had a ******* "TRYING" to out run everything while their ******s were flapping in the wind slowing them down, bbbbbuuuuuuuuutttttt like i said, thats just my opinion.
