A hood for a firebird, need help

I have the stock hood for a 88 firebird. It has the hood scoop, and i was wondering can you put screen in the opening to let warm air out, yet block water from getting in. I have seen a couple of guys around my area do it yet i am not sure if it blocks water. any suggestions

If you are talking about the hood with the scoop going up hte driver's side than yes you can get a honeycomb screen (like i have on my Formula)out of a 82-84 H.O. or CFI T/A to let the hot air out, those cars had functional cowl induction-(i used to own a 83 305 Cross-fire T/A) and the screen will bolt right in,just take the 4 bolts holding the grey plate off of yours and put the 4 bolts back in with the screen.
Or since you have tbi get the whole electronic set up and have cowl induction on your tbi.

When I had that hood, I just took the plate out and left it open. Never had a problem. You can pull the hood insulation out at the same time to keep it from falling into the opening.

Will the same thing work with tpi? I don't see why it wouldn't.

I know some one who just cut the whole thing out. I looked at my car and it will just unbolt but.. he never had a problem with water getting in there. I mean I'm sure it does, it has to. As far as does that make a difference I dont think so.

As far as stuff getting in the hood compartment, is there any difference in an open power bulge hood and a cowl hood?
