Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't suicide doors the doors that open from the other side...like the hindge being where the door handle is? The lamborginis have wing doors or lift doors.

ok

1) i have a $1 that says someone will call this rice

2) lambo's dont use suicide doors, they use
gullwing doors

3) the cost of converting to that style door would be more than a new SS 35th aniversary or damn close to it

4) i have never seen a "kit"

5) just out of curiosity, what kind of camaro is it ???

my $.02 ... i wouldnt like it at all, but hey beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I saw a third gen Camaro on eBay a while back with suicide doors. I must say, it was ugly, but it could have been the awful paint scheme. I wonder if anyone has that pic saved..

It is possible, heck, anything is possible, but do you want to do it. The shape of the door is wrong for it. You would have to re-shape the front fenders, rear quarters & the Actual doors, not to mention you would have to frame in your windows.

When you look at a lambo you willl notice the doors are narrower on the bottom then on top, that is for clearance.

I am not sure of the exact name, but Gul Wing doors usually go straight up like a Delorian, or that Mercedes from the 50's.

True Gul wing doors might be interesting, if you hinged it at the T-bar section, made some window frames.

Suicide doors would be possible, there really not practical, & a little unsafe.

It might be possible to re-hinge the doors to open up & out, like on the windshield A pillar. But that too would take some engeneering as well.

If you want something really diferent, get some rails from a Van & put sliding doors on it.

Just to clarify, okfoz is right on about gullwing doors (mercedes and delorean)

The proper name for the Lambo doors is scissors-doors....or at least that's what I've always heard em called in the major car mags.

Or why not take it all out and go "saloon-door" style - with hinges front and back, chop the door in half and then add double door handles on the center.. That way you could kick'em open when you cruise in to the local cruise spot and be the coolest guy in town..Of course that would require that you also carry a magnum..

Scissor doors might be interesting, but most of those doors are all annoying? Ever sat in a limbo and opened those doors and tried closing them, pain in the *** .

My brothers deloran had nice dors, but the struts went and bang in the head all the time. And now that the size of parking spaces has changed for compact cars, gullwing alot harder to open. But with so many SUVs, could change.

Limbo doors I imagine would be very costly when the struts went out. Must be some hinge considering the way the open

I have to say I got a chuckle out of the topic, but search the archives I'm pretty sure this has been delt with before (in detail!) thirdgen doors are just too big and heavy.

here's some pics to see what everybody's talking about(hope they work):

first couple are lambos followed by delorean and a hot rod with real suicide doors (ever see The California Kid? sorry I couldn't find any pics of that one)

Thats a neat idea, but there sure would be alot of modifications that would have to be made.As far as weight, you could always have some fiberglass skins made(but thats very unsafe for "daily drivers",show cars yes)But wait...mine is a daily driver and a show car..hehehe NOT!!,anyway,if their where some way that the doors could be brought "out" with a push of the button, enough room for them to clear the fenders, then they could pivot up or something.Just an idea...

I believe the Lambo doors are called (forgive the spelling) guillotine style. You know...the head chopper.

The suicide doors on the camaro would look better when not seeing them at that angle. It would be cool to turn up somewhere with them though.

just about every lowrider camaro has suicide doors look it up; that conversion is somewhat easy; on the other hand the actual door is too heavy to accomplish any arial tricks without serious modification.

I've seen a mustang that had it's doors converted so that they opened upwards like a Lambo. I'll have to look out the article.

I saw a company at the LA auto show last year that was doing this conversion. As I recall they wanted something like $7K per door and claimed to have a year and a half backlog. They had a Mudstain done as a sample. It was an electro-hydraulic mechanism as I recall. The door slides out about 8" then scissors up. Considering the extra weight and cost, it's probably only worth doing for a show car.

Those doors aren't photoshopped, there are other pics of that car.It was posted here or on 3rdgen.org a while ago and it looked ok from the outside but had an ugly interior(pepto bismol pink seats,carpet/doorpanels and teal accents).

The company you guys are referring to in CA, is at http://www.formula1design.com/ I've been in touch with them alot as I wanted to get this done to my doors on my GTA. They at first thought they would be able to do it as they were trying to do a corvette at the same time when I called. They said that a vettes door and ours are very similar. Alas when I called back a few weeks later they said they can't do it on a 3rd gen body. Our doors are to heavy.

The way how it works is the door pops out first about 4 to 5" then tilts up. The price is 5k per door with a life warranty. I told them the moment this is available to call me as I would have my car shipped out there right away. I will call them again this week to see if they've made any progress.

Oh yeah, they do both gull wing and Swan door conversions.

Actually, it takes less side clearance to open gullwing doors than traditionally hinged doors. The hinges on most, if not all, gullwing door cars are near the centerline of the roof.
