I am considering buying 16 inch 91-92 rims
for my 89 RS. I currently have 15 inch
stock rims on the car. By switching to
16" rims will this throw my speedometer off?
How much?? Is there a way to fix this??

When you get tires for the 16" wheels get this size, 245/50/16. there should be no problems with speedo.

I agree with zepher... thats the stock size for 16x8 wheels, and my calculations say it will only throw the speedo off by a couple MPH at 100.

My camaro came riding on hefty 215/70-14's

Upgrading to 245/50-16's (same height) changed nothing on the speedo (verified by one of those speed survey things on the side of the highway)

225/60-15's are also the same height.

Sizes will vary slightly from tire manu. to tire manu.,,, nothing to lose sleep over though. I had 255/50-16 on the back of my camaro & the speedo was slow by 2mph@50.

Thanks guys. I kinda figured if you kept the height the same that it should screw the speedo up to much. My dad keeps bitching at me that my ride is gonna suck if I go to 17's... Is this true that the ride is alot worse?
If you had the choice between BRAND NEW 91-92 16" rims and ROH Snyper 17" rims which would you take? I can get the 91-92 rims for 675.00 and they are brand new. Where as the 17" ROH Snypers would be 800.00 atleast plus tires will cost more... Is the extra money for the inch bigger really worth it???
Tell me what you would do...

Just remember if you are running rear drums to put factory wheel spacers on, or you will have the wrong offset.

215/60R16 & 235/55R16 tires were also used on some of our cars. But I don't think they ever looked right with the 16" rim. the tread was too narrow.

I've never seen 215/60-16 used ever.
the only factory 215 series tire was the 215/65-R15

stock sizes were
195/75-R14
215/65-R15
235/60-VR15
235/55-R16
245/50-VR16
245/50-ZR16

though I've seen 205/75-R14 and the guy swore it was stock, and I think the 205's were offered on '85 maro's and in '86 they started to use 15's and no 14" wheels

I have seen 225/60-R16's on f-bodies, but they looked a bit weird, but the speedo was on. Kinda how a mid 90's Grand Prix SE came with a 225/60-R16, but a GTP could be had with a 245/50-VR16 -- on the same crosslace 16x8's nonetheless. (only 16x8 used on a FWD car)
