is this the way the door is SUPOSED to line up? help! i cant figure this out -_-

1985 Iroc Z28 project

just put on doors from a 1991 Z28, both my old doors and my new doors opened and closed perfectly, yet i noticed the body line on the bottom of the new and old doors is about 1/4" lower then the line on the fender and 1/4 panel, on both sides, on both sets of doors, is this correct????

heres pics and yes i know the fender is close to the door and thats becuase i unbolted it trying to see if i could line it up better, but it doesnt move down any.......

thanks eveyone here on TGO

PS: my front fenders are aftermarket, i thought that was why till i noticed the body lines on the 1/4 panel are higher then the door also...

the line down the center of the door lines up correctly tho on the 1/4 but not the front fenders... what the hell.

can somone post pics of how it SHOULD be lined up please!

the gap is going to be wide.. at the front and back of the doors.

I was the first one to drive my car off the lot.
and its never even had a door ding.

I can tell you the gaps are wide..

OP the 1/4 looks like it may be full of bondo or filler. You said the line in the middle of the 1/4 looked good so I'd go with that. The aftermarket fender I used was off at the door also. I ended up drilling out the welds in the brace or support at the back of the fender and repositioning it so it lined up. There may be other ways to get your doors to fit better but this is my opinion on the 1/4 and what worked for me on the fender. Good luck with it.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but my WAG is that the car has been pretty heavily damaged on that side and you are going to have a hard time getting proper gaps until the sub-structure has been straightened.

They don't line up because the 91's have different GFX's than 85-89. Your GFX should cover it up and you should not be able to notice it.

GFX have nothing to do with gaps between the fender/door or quaters/door

the back gap looks huge, the front gap looks good at the top and way too tight at the bottom of the door

i agree, this car looks to have had some serious damage, and its not going to line up right without straitening

I see the car is in the air. Make sure it is sitting on the suspension before doing anything. If you have jackstands on the frame it will do this.

Re: is this the way the door is SUPOSED to line up? help! i cant figure this out -_-

Those body lines should line up perfectly, they don't because the car has been damaged, hence the horrid gaps at the front and back, the GFX are not going to hide the fact the body lines won't line up, as the top of the GFX will line up with the body line

i could be wrong though, guess ill check my doors, i have all the gfx off

i don't think i've ever seen that tight of a gap because of being jacked up though, but all these cars twist different soooo......

I'm not worried about the gaps, gaps were perfect with the old door, I need to move it around, in talking about the one body line at the bottom of the door, the car was not damaged badly small damage to the 1/4 was n old repair needs gone over. Not a bid deal, fender isn't bolted on it that pic. I ended up buy new fenders ill take pics when the whether cleara

My doors from a 92 and the fenders I got are to so when I eat em on tomorrow well see, door was a pain to get on so I didn't take the time to move it where it needed to be but as far as I know it doesn't move up and down just back and fourth right?

If you look closely, you can tell that the brown camaro's GFX come up higher on the door which is an 85. the red camaro is a 91 im pretty sure and you can see that the GFX dont come up as far which would result in a lower body line on the door.Name: side.jpg

found the images off google. Correct me if I am wrong please but i dont think the body lines not lining up is a result of not aligned doors

the front of the door is a problem with fender if that is aftermarket fender as it appears to be tends to line up that way i had the same problem ended up getting a junk yard fender from the same year car as mine

Your door needs to come up you should have 3/16 to 1/8 in gap at the bottom if you don't you can back off on the door hinge bolts and move it up and you can move the door from front to back to fix you gap at the quarter and fender

As I said before, make sure the car is on the suspension BEFORE making any adjustments.
