Yea, there's alcohol or something in the Armoral that causes plastic and vinyl to dry out. The only cure is to keep using it, which is a nice way to get someone to keep buying it lol.

I painted mine too, and haven't had any problems. It just needs an occasional dusting, but looks better than a "wet" dash.

I agree. Painted mine and the console and dash/instrument bezel. I've got no need for Armoral because I use Professional Black Magic on my tires.

There is a VERY reputible interior place here in Flint, they are called Schultz interiors. Or something like that, anyway, when I had a vynal top done on my daily driver, I asked them about Armoral, They said to keep that stuff OFF everything but the tires. They suggested Son-Of-A-Gun by STP. I don't have any problems with it. Been using it for a few years. That is JUST MY experience.

I also talked to another interior place here in Flint, and they essentially said the same thing.

i got a trick for you. Use Eagle One Wet Tire Shine on your dash. Gives a great shine and won't dry the dash out.

It's not that pricy, you're lookin at $3-4 for a can of the interior paint(duplicolor or about 8 for a can of SEM, the good stuff), $10 for a bottle of plastic prep and $8 for a can of adhesion promoter(that's the key to lasting quality) then follow these steps:
1. Wash the piece thouroughly and let dry
2. Spray with plastic prep and remove
3. Spray with adhesion promoter and let dry.
4. Apply interior paint in light, even coats letting it dry between coats.

I WON'T use Armorall or Maguires or anything else on my dash because they let of a gas of some sort that locks on the windshield in a film-like way. I hate it! I have to clean the inside of my windshield about every 3 days because of that stuff!

Iused duplicolor, you can find it anywhere from wal-mart to autozone, the SEM plastic prep, SEM interior paint and Klean-Strip's Bulldog Adhesion Promoter willl probably only be found at an automotive paint supply store. Check your yellowpages and call around. The SEM products as well as Bulldog are used extensively by professionals so my guess is someone in your area will carry them. If you can't find the plastic prep, try just using rubbing alcohol, but don' tlet it evaporate on the surface, wipe it on, then quickly wipe it off.

Is that what causes that filmy stuff on the windshield??? I thought that was from dust or something. Anyways I use 2001 Polish (the stuff in the neon green bottle) Works great, but I noticed Black Magic Tire shine works really well too.

The filmy stuff that you get on the inside of your windows is usually caused by a few things. Smoking is the most obvious, since I dont smoke, it doed not contribute to my windshield scum. probably one thing at alot of people seem to overlook is any time you have a vynal, leather, or cloth, they each give off fumes that seem to cling to the windshield & other windows.

The leathers are not as bad, but all the plastics, vynals and cloths in your interior give off something. It is like they are slowly evaporating. That is why new plastics that are plyable, and flexible, slowly become brittle. Each of our cars uses alot of plastic in the interior, and to be honest, most of our plastic pieces will be so brittle and broken up that we will have a heck of a time to find good ones in the junk yards.

When I started only a few years ago, it seemed like finding good parts was not that difficult. The pickins are getting slimmer and slimmer for nice parts in the salvage yards.

The proces has a few names, "half life" is one of them. That is why our dshes crack, it is just the nature of things, and it is also the cause of the film on the windhsield.

Treatments dont do much to keep the dash from cracking. Use a sunshade, park in shaded areas when possible, park in a garage, etc.. Armorall tends to work much better if you use it as it was designed.

Just an FYI, cars come from the factory with bondo in them. My father used to work for Buick, and he remembers guys on the line that would be all they did. Bump and paint. Granted most of it was just minor stuff from manufacturing.

A good bondo job will take an ordinary Camaro or Firebird and make it look perfect. Let me be the first to tell you that all those show cars that have that mirror finish have bondo or glazing puddy in them NO car comes off the line perfect, Bondo & a little primer, paint & alot of work can make a car "appear" perfect.

I'm on my 3rd thirdgen and I can honestly say that in the sun Armorall is crap. It would always need to be done every week at least. If I didn't keep up the dash turns to a very light white/grey.
I CAN say that the STP Son-of-a-gun stuff WORKS. I bought a little bottle over a year ago and have had to use it maybe once ever couple months just because of dust.
These are the only 2 products I've tried and I can honestly say that the STP stuff wins hands down!

I use Turtle Wax Tire Wax on my dash and am very happy with the results. However, if you use it on your tires (which I do) it will not make them super shiny (which I guess alot of people like).
