How hard is to swap doors on my TA?
Well in another one of my acts of stupidity, I broke the DS door on my TA. I angry/drunk last night and I pulled out of my driveway without shutting the door. The door hit the basketball hoop and the glass shattered. After looking at it this morning, it seems that noly the glass was affected, the hinges look like they are still good.
Anyways how hard is it to swap doors from an 88 TA onto and 86 TA? I am concerned about the wiring for the power locks/windows mathcing between the years. Also how hard would it be to wire up the power mirrors that are on the 88 to my manual mirrored 86?
Thanks for the help,
-Max

lol, smooth buddy,
take a peek on the inside of the door when you open it, on the hinge should be three bolts each hinge, thats it i think...

I hate when that happens,, lol (yes I'm just joking w/ya)
To take the door off is somewhat more of a PITA than it seems
The fender will have to come (unless you know how to get to the bolt w/o doing that) off to access the top bolts that hold the hinge on
The lower hinge can just have the pin driven out to seperate the door from the other half of the hinge. Otherwise youll have to unbolt the hinge from the inside

deadbird is correct, it is alot easier to change doors with the front fenders off.
It is possible to remove the doors with the fenders on, I would not want to install the door with the fender on. Unfortunately if you remve the fender, you will also remove the hood.
If you remove the headlight asm, it will also make life easier to remove the fender. It will make it easier to get the front facia out of the way.

Ok, taking off the fender and door itslef are not a problem. What I am concerned with is the wiring. I am pretty sure the power locks/windows will just hook up but how hard is it to wire the power mirror on the new door to the manual mirrored car?

The power wires need to be un-plugged and when you take the door off you will have to have a friend help you, jsut feed the wires through the hole in the door. It really is not that difficult. Figure about an hour of time, just to disconnect the wires. The mirrors on my car had a plug.
When you get a new door make sure it has the accessories already installed like the power window and the power locks it will make the switch easier. The mirror should be no problem, unplug it, and unbolt the 2 nuts, thats about it.

Ok, I unbolted the door and started disconnecting wires. I disconnected the thin pigtail (5 or 6 wires, mirror I'm guessing) but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the thich batch of wires. I can't reach ddep enough into the door to disconnect them.
What did you mean by feeding the wires through? Did you have to take the front face of the door off cause I can only feed the thick bunch about 5 inches out after that the wire becomes tight like I'm about to snap it.
Thanks for the help,
-Max

I don't know what you're trying to pull but I'll take a shot at what I think you're asking... (ignore pic quality,, they come off the camera faster tho)
You'll need to unplug the door solonoid, window motor, lock switch & (I don't have) power mirrors. (green arrows)

Getting the door loose it should just pull away from the car, the harness tho is taped around a little tab off the grommet tube that connects the door to the hinge pillar
http://www.deadbird.org/z/d2.jpg
Get the wires & grommet loose & you should be able to pull the wires free. Feed the wires into the new door,, mount & push the grommet tube back in the hole & hook everything back up & you should be good to go to seal your car up for the night at least.
I hope that's what you needed,, was hard to tell what you were asking.
