trans am conversion
I'm plannin to do some body work on my firebird, it's an 87 with a 2.8l no power options or anything like that...I want to put Trans Am GFX, hood, fenders and wing on my car. Would everything just bolt on pretty easily?

i am doing the same thing you are. the swap will take a little time but isnt to bad as long as you get all the parts. you will obviously need the hood, fenders, front and rear bumber covers, tail lights(you will have to re wire your old ones)the side gfx and all the mounting hardware, and you will need to either get the brackets that go under the door off a T/A car by drilling the welds out, or get some new ones from the dealer. you will have to take measurements from a T/A car so you will know where to drill the holes at, or you can put the pieces against the car and scratch the paint to give you a reference point on where to drill at, just make sure they are straight. 82-84 trans am fenders wont work with 85 and up gfx, the air extractors are to big and the gfx will overlap them(i found that out the hard way last week)as for the wrap around wing the easiest way to do it is to get the wing and hatch. if you dont do that, you will have to drill some holes and fill in the old holes, and you will also have to put the clips that hold the wing on next to the glass(theres a way to do that, if you want to know how let me know)well, i think thats all, if you need any other info let me know.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but you could buy a trans-am for almost as much as it is going to cost to do the swap. Overall it's no more difficult than drilling some holes except for the rocker panel pieces. There is a large support piece welded to the rocker panels that the ground effects bolt to. Without that piece, they'll sag and get pretty nasty looking, not to mention there's no strength if somebody steps there while getting into the car.

it depends on how much you can get the parts for. i got everything from a local salvage yard for about 250. but my car needed new fenders and i got the car really cheap. if you where gonna go buy all the parts new i would definatly say get a real T/A.

I agree 100%, I have seen a ton of 86-88
T\As that needed a little TLC for around 2K.
Even if its A TERD LG4 its still better then
the pig 2.8.Dont waste your time save the 2.8
car for parts for a T\A.

Good luck with whatever way you go, but the parts should all bolt up fairly easy.
Good luck
