I got a lightshow for a turn signal!

Well...this just started doing this about 3 months ago. On my dash, when my lights are on, and I turn the left blinker on, The right indicator flashes with the brights indicator. With the right blinker it does the opposite.
It doesn't bother me that bad, cause I know electrical work under the dash is expecive, so I can live with it, but I just want to know if anyone has seen this before,or know a quick fix.

Wow...I have some electrical problems of my own. I think my car may need to be rewired....how much do you think that will be? Well...first off when I put on my right signal the front right works...yet the back right on my tail lights doesnt. It is completely opposite with my left turn signal..instead my rear works and my front doesnt. They my fourways work..but only the left side does in the back and on the dash only the left side indicator flashes. Oh yea...and my reverse lights work. And when you apply the brake only the left side works. I changed the bulbs and that didnt work. Then I swapped wiring harnesses for the tail lights...and by accident I didnt realize the one from the '88 was different from my '83. So as a result of changing it now my fuel gauge doesnt work. My electrical is pretty screwed up....and this is my first car so I dont know if I should go through all the trouble of fixing it or if I should find another 3rd gen. Well also the wierdest thing is that when I set my alarm every tail light...including the directionals, break lights, reverselights,etc....they all lighten up. It seems that they all work..just not at the right times. I think it is with in the steering column and possibly my turn signal. Oh yea...it is probably becuase when the person swapped engines he didnt know how to rewired it to the 350 carbed. My heat also has some kind of cut off switch under the dash...only *** knows why the hell the person did it. I was given the car for free, so I figured it wouldnt be that much to fix. Well I may have been wrong. What do you think I should do?????

Sounds like its the wires in the steering column to me.
