Corvette twin turbo hood

Corvette twin turbo hood
I am currently purchasing a twin turbo hood for my 87 Z28. I have been informed that the gm hood shocks would be to powerful for the fiberglass hood and could punch a hole through it, Is this true? Are there special shocks for a fiberglass hood?

never done it, but some around here suggest old hood shocks off a junkyard car work.
The ones too weak to hold a steel hood up.

The only problem with that idea is that on some junkyard cars i know that sometimes both hood shocks are not at the same strength and hoods open up one side more powerful than the other side. My buddys Iroc does that.Finding weak shocks at the same weakness could be a task.

yeah, either that or make some solid supports that can be put in place of the struts when the hood is up. I saw someone do it before, looked like a pipe with the ends mashed together and a hole drilled in them, but it was chromed. Otherwise a prop rod will work, I know a guy with an 83 bird who did that.

I'm using newer struts on my ASCD hood (3 or 4 years old). The hood still comes down if the struts are cold. I use an old adjustable shower curtain rod to hold it up when I'm in the garage. It's springy and has rubber ends on it.
