145mph speedo on 92 RS
I just received a 145mph speedo for my 92 RS. I would like to know if I need to change anything out before replacing my 115mph with this new one. I read some old posts on this subject, but I couldn't find one on a 91-92 camaro. Thanks.

I just did the 115 to 145 speedo swap in my 92RS 2 days ago.It really is a direct swap, pull the other one out and put the new one in....Before you actually bolt everything back up though,i suggest that you turn your lights on to make sure none of the lights are blown on it.when i put mine in one of the speedo lights was out.

what about the odometer, is it built into the speedometer or can you change just the speedo and keep the odometer? i dont wanna start messing around with the mileage on my car (83 z28) in case i ever have to sell it, but i wanna switch out speedo's to get rid of the 85 mph from factory. thanks guys.

Chevy83Z28,If you have the confidence to get into the cluster like that its definately possible to 1)roll the odometer to the mileage you want or 2)just swap the two odometers out..me personally..i'm not going into it,there a lot of small parts in there and I don't have the patience. You can also check into a few shops that repair speedometers...i'm sure they can do it.

thanks jtmiller, i was hoping it would be just two tiny screws that hold the entire odometer housing to the speedometer. i guess my best bet is to just check out these swap meets and see what's involved before i go 'hacking hehe .

For those of you swapping out your 115's for the 145's, this is only a plug and play operation if your car has a V8 from the factory. If you have a V6 car the tach is gonna be off, as it was set to check on 6 cyl instead of 8.

but what im confused on is if the plug and play operation is strickly for the entire gauge cluster or for just the speedo as well?
does anyone have a side by side shot of the 115 and 145 speedos by any chance???

If you have a 90-92 V8 Camaro, than the 90-92 145 MPH gauge cluster is a direct swap, everything will swap over and work correctly.

My tach was reading 2500 with the 145 speedo at idle when she normally idles at 950. I just did the swap on my 84 Camaro, I had to take my old tach out of the 85mph speedo and put it in the 145 speedo, problem solved. Just remove the two little screws and swap tach. Reverse direction to install in the other cluster.

What about the TA's mine has the lame *** 85mph speedo will a 145 unit be a direct swap? (From another TA of course!) A local yard has like 4 of them. Or will I have to get the 120 unit?
