Do i need hood pins?
On Wednesday of this week, i am having my new cowl induction hood put on. My question is to whether or not i should invest in a set of hood pins? And if so, where would be the best place to order em from? Just curious...

It depends on the hood. I've seen some that can use the stock latch. Cheaper hoods usually need pins to hold them on. But pins will give you piece of mind.

I agree, it depends on the hood and the person. I have a harwood on my Z and it uses the stock latches. I put pins on mine just for extra protection because at 75+ the hood starts to vibrate a little. Maybe I'm paranoid but at least I'll protect my $400 hood. Also if you use "good" pins and take your time it will look really clean!

I put pins in my Ram Air II hood because it's made of two layers. Once you cut out the nostrils you open a pathway for air to get in between the two. At highway speeds+ I was afraid of losing the upper layer of my hood, and consequently looking like the ****.

Quick question... On the hoods that don't use the front latch, do you still use the hinges in the back without the support shocks? or is it just a lift off hood with 4 pins holding everything in place.

You'd have to ask the manufacturer - typically lightweight or lift off hoods are only held on by pins. They aren't heavy enough or don't have reinforcements in place for the struts to bolt to. Some guys get away using old worn out struts (that wouldn't hold up a stock hood) to lift them up, but normally it's not a good idea.

I have a stock looking glass hood that came on a used Iroc I bought. It had pins on the front and used the stock hinges. I found that worn stock struts (that would barely hold up a stock steel hood) worked perfect for this hood. If you use good struts you could crack the hood from too much force used to overcome the struts. I plan on using this hood on my RS 'vert, but only if I can use the stock latch assy.
